Greetings to all fellow paladins and others across Norrath. I rarely post on forums though I do lurk both here and on the SOE boards quite a bit. However, after reading the reply that dev Fireflyte made on the SOE forums regarding the reasoning behind the change made to the Ancient Dreadscale Greaves I felt it both necessary and appropriate to bring it further to the attention of the players here and to crusaders in particular.

As you can see from the statements made in the link below it appears that crusaders are not to be considered as "primary tanks" and from the wording of the last sentence perhaps not even as fighters. As a pally who has successfully MT'd most of the content (including named bosses) in T1 and T2 raids of RoK I believe we are holding up quite well as primary tanks in all levels of game content and it both irritates and disturbs me to see statements like this made by developers. We often have a difficult enough time convincing other players of our abilities. This only serves to significantly compound that situation. (Yes, I'm fully aware that posting this may bring the anti-crusader elements out in full force and while there are legitimate issues to discuss in that regard I would like to ask that the whole SK vs pally vs zerker vs guard argument be left to another place and time)

I'd like to further state that I'm not posting this to be in any way derogatory toward Fireflyte or the dev team. I can appreciate the complexity of a game like EQ2 and understand that creating and maintaining such a system is a daunting task to say the least. It just appears that based on the statement made regarding those leggings that either I and many others have been operating outside our intended parameters for quite some time or that changes are planned and will be incoming to bring crusaders more in line with clerics than tanks. I'd like to know now whether it's time to re-roll that warrior


SOE why did you remove the Ancient Dreadscale Leggings drop from the game?

It could be nomenclature. Primary could internally to SoE be how they talk about warriors, Secondary being those that have other functions / hybrid. Coming from someone with FootInMouth disease, its hardly official.

The thinking unconscious or not behind it worries me - ongoing changes/tweaks/nerfs could mean that the bias towards warriors at the Primary/MT, could get to be less theory and more actual. I mean, look at brawlers - nobody confuses them with raid MTs now, and originally ALL fighters were supposed to be equal but different.

what other functions? and Crusaders are not hybrids. just because we can cast fricken spells doesn't mean where hybrids. thats like saying a necromancer is a healer because they have a heal spell.

heck i don't care i have been calling to make Crusaders hybrids since I hit 80 and found out i had to reroll or join a casual raiding guild that didnt give a shit about success to get in on a raid.

Now that I betrayed to a pally i've been in a little bit better situation. but still I would kill for SOE to give us something that makes us NEEDED and wanted on a raid. I mean if i ever saw in 70-79 chat ... "raid looking for SK or Pally PST" i think i would honestly shit my pants.

I think someone should hold him accountable for this and open a PU raid LF Pally just so he's got to sit in stinky britches for some of this boobery. /wink

Paladins that don't suck are the best OT an EQ2 raid can get. We need nothing except complex multimob encounters, which RoK lacks atm. FYI: You'll find a Paladin in a number of ww competitive & endtier raiding guilds. There is a reason for that.

Does the tanking honeypot of raiding guilds spontaneously open it's legs up for every swingin guardian schlong that hits the level cap? 'Fraid not friends... Paladin or Guardian, you 'gotta earn your tail with pillow talk then you better be able to perform and kill that ass if you want to get invited back to the party.

Either...

1. App with an established raiding guild and get lucky enough to strut your stuff, and by some fluke actually not suck although you have no experience...

2. Join a casual guild with raiding aspirations and try to hold them together as they go though culture shock but give you a chance to cut your teeth...

3. Roll up a new guild with raiding aspirations and appoint yourself tanker...

...or any combination of 1 through 3 to achieve enough phatz/experience to succeed at becoming a reliable raid tanker in one of them eventually.

ALL of these take a lot of work. The rub is: unlike soloing or instancing, you actually have to find 23 other people willing to simultaneously trust you not to waste their time.
