Is a Paladin the right class for me?

I've been playing EQ2 for a month or so, getting a feel for mechanics and trying out various classes. I've come to the following conclusions:

1. I want to play a fighter class.
2. I want to be a plate wearer.
3. I don't much care for SK or Berserker.

So, basically, Guardian or Paladin. Early on, I'll be spending a large amount of time solo, probably 95%+ solo until at least 50 or 60. At end game, I don't plan on being a hardcore raider. Maybe a bit of low end raiding, and smaller group stuff, but I'm more a 'hour or 3 a day' player, not a 'every minute of free time' player.

I haven't actually rolled a pally yet. Have played a guardian up the high teens. It was decent. Main thing that I dislike there is that the best AA line requires use of a buckler, which is just not my image of my character. I'm not an RPer, but, I want a big plate of metal on my arm, dang it.

Thoughts?

Yes, then a paladin would be your only option.

I would try both out... sometime around level 30-40 that's one weekend even casually and should give you a clearer indication of the difference between the classes. More importantly you'll prob get to tank a group or two around. Once you think you have a good indication of the classes you'l be the best person to decide tho I will leave you with one question.

"Are you any good at playing a pally?"

If the answer is: "yeah I'm ok" or "not really", then I would suggest heading towards guardian; its far more forgiving the higher up you go.

see it like this... its easier to hold aggro with a pally and its easier to stay alive as a guard. But in instances you shouldent really have to worry about staying alive tho. As boli said try both and see what class you like best. they are both sweet tanks.

Yeah for small group stuff pally > guardian. The guardian is one of the worst solo classes imho; and their abilities are well-tuned for raid tanking, but not so much for solo/group play. With a paladin solo, if you screw up you can AE down adds or heal yourself, as a Guardian you simply die. And in a group setting, Amends=win, and guards need the buckler spec in order to not suck at their job.
