Sheild Protection Question

The Shield of the Green Dragon is getting nerfed. The shield now has a protection value of 1498 on test and 1728 on live. Which leads me to my quandry.

How does protection pan out in combat.. does it help avoid, block, or mitigation?

If so how much does it help?

How big of an impact is this nerf going to have on the sheild? Seems to me that it is still badass. Thoughts?

Still gonna be pretty good for survivability, but not gonna be the beast it was. I'm praying they don't nerfed already attuned items, but that is doubtful. However I'm now more inclined to use the Righteous Barrier of Devotion now that the avoidance wont be as sick.

The protection is used to calculate your block-percentage. Also is your Hero-Endline AA counting on this protection value, as its adding a percentage of block to its unmodified value.

I did some math and had some close guessing, so at the moment with Soulfire and block adornment, I reach 35,8 % Block with the Green Dragon Shield. (no, NEVER even seen crusader BP to drop).

If the protection wents down from 1728 on live to 1498 on test, I will be left with close to 30% block in the end.

Its a huge nerf for Paladins (wich HAVE an AA especially and only for protection from shields), IMHO.
-well...have to add that its a nerf for all Paladins that didn't get trak shield, wich seems to be getting boosted perhaps

Green dragon live to test difference is 3.2% block btw. This will be a diff of arround 2.2% for other tanks as our aa line improves on the protection value.

hover over your avoidance... your block % is what is important. reguardless of the protection value it scales with level.

Anybody know the amount of protection on the Righteous Barrier Shield from SoH? As its VP-Tier (but not VP-drop), is it going to be updated too on test?

The Righteous Barrier of Devotion has 1594 protection.

The Green Dragon Shield was always a bit overpowered so no surprise its getting nerfed.

Given the weeks I camped it for and the sheilds I turned down once I had it I will be very annoyed if they nerf any attuned sheild

Not only are they nerfing the Green Dragon shield, but they are boosting the Enduring Wall & Trak shield (from what I've heard).

As long as the additional 3% block remains on the Green Dragon shield it will still be usable, although I'm pretty sure the Enduring Wall will be the better of the two post-nerf.
