Default Macros and you...

So I got a jamming AA build working, and thanks to Flames my spell casting order down, and now I'm thinking about trying to macro things to speed them up.

Problem is...

I'm not a big user of macros and have no idea where to start.

So I was hoping a few of you who do use macros on a daily basis might have a few starter tips or favorite macros that you use to make your life simpler and your tanking better.

The only thing i generally use macros for is to target a specific mob in a large group of targets. I included a screenshot to show as an example. You just click what I pointed the arrow to "add step" and then you can type out /target mobname

I generally include target macros into a spell or ca I use often so i dont have to add an extra button to my hotbars. I generally attach it to my taunt before the fight then just delete the added step after cause it could cause potential targetting conflicts in other fights.

Of course you can make an individual macro for every single encounter in the game if you want to play with 10 hotbars and a full macro book, I try to keep it simple and efficient........

I have my incoming macro (it casts ward, gives a message in group/raid and casts stonewall)

And I have both single target and group taunt macroed into a lot of my CAs so I pretty much cast taunts every time they are up without thinking about it

There are a few good macros to have.. especially on your emergencies.

Rescue,
Divine Aura,
Lay Hands.. etc.

Right click> Create Macro..

Add the line /Cancel_spellcast into a command. Make sure it's higher than the spellcast itself in the macro.

This will stop everything your doing and instantly begin executing that. You don't need to wait for whatever your casting to finish, it makes it much more practical to put the little emergency we have to use.

Another important one that I've found is to put a second Cure Spells on your bar, macro'd to use yourself as the target of the cast. Just create macro and type your name in the target box. You won't have to switch targets to cure yourself, and the recast is much faster than potions (Keep trauma around though).

That's all I use beyond a DPS gear / Tank gear macro and some appearance stuff.

Hope it helps.

Ya good call, I also use the cure macroed to myself but forgot to list it.....

I'd like to take a second and note Stonestrong's excellent Microsoft paint skill, as well as his Darkened shard quest and tradeskill level being just as slack-ass as mine.

/salute

I don't like having 15 zillion buttons to push, so all the small attacks are in one macro which I punch for "filler" attacks.

All good macros... and you can hold Shift+Bar# to swap to a clicky gear bar pretty easily too for fast clicky heals, waterbreathing, and other clickable crap.

I'd also recommend:
(1) "/g Body Pulling... hold your attack until I call for assist."
(2) green taunt+"/g Assist me with %t"
(3) Sigil+"/g BURN IT for 20 seconds! All your aggros are belongs to me!"
(4) Amends+"/tell %t Top the parse, bitch, and AE like crazy when you see adds. If I loose aggro it's your fault."+"/g Amends on %t"

Not so into this one because it will queue attacks and bork up your melee swing timing.

You never want to interrupt a melee swing with some shitty cast on your hotbar. period exclaimation point. You can't trust the crappy ACT bell. Go download Rhaz' Auto Attack Bar if you aren't running a UI with it embedded... go do it now. Your DPS will thank you for it.
