I am currently thinking about leveling my Paladin to 80, I have heard mixed things about whats stats to go for and I would like to know what you guys think.

Expanding on what I previously asked, I have heard from a lot of people that Paladin's DPS mainly comes from their auto attack and wondered if getting melee crit and DA is the way forward?

I am assuming that by mentioning crit and DA you aren't talking about base stats like STA, STR, etc, etc. If that is what you were initially asking then Lansalas was right for the most part. STA, STR, and AGI are primary with INT being a secondary in importance. Yes, our myth proc is off of Wisdom, but that proc alone is worth focusing on a single stat.

Because of the damage spread being so large on out mythcial DPS, Crit, and DA are hug. During raids with DPS mod being around 200-220, I have had my weapon crit for 12-13k. Couple that with 175-190 haste and you are (in perfect world) auto attacking for 12.5k damage every 4 seconds or so.

As far as which modifier you want to put the most emphasis into really depends what set-up you run with. (Not sure if you plan on raiding with the Pally)

Stats are not really important in the end. You want to maximize your crit(melee and spell), double attack, dps mod, and haste. Once you get to 80 and get decent gear your stats will be where they need to be.

Once you get your basic melee skills that I listed above on par you can start focusing on things like Casting Speed, Reuse, and Proc Gear/Base Damage Modifiers. These type of benefits usually come through upper end raid gear and will make a huge difference in your overall ability.

First of all if we are talking "pure dps" you have to actively think on what buffs will be cast upon you and/or would be upon you in a given group/raid.

For example crits are buffed the least in your group and you should priotise them more than doubleattack which whlist important to you can esily be buffed up to and even beyond the 100% cap.

As a "rule of thumb" I would push for:

Melee / Spell Crit: ~ 90%
Double Attack: ~ 60%

However those stats are actually frightningly easy to obtain once you start loading up with higher end gear and you'll find yourself with the situation of finding the only way to enhance your DPS in any significant way is to go for :

+Base damage (CA & Spell)
+Spell/melee crit bonus
+Procs

And then after that (in order)
+recovery
+reuse
+casting speed

Initially all you will think about is getting your melee skills up as that is where you will see the biggest increase in your abilities... however the actual dps you can get from autoattack alone is finite; its the procs that will actually push your dps higher and higher.
