returning and I want to tank

Hello

I am a returning player and wanting to tank. Out of all the tank choices I have come down to paladin or berserker and was wandering how the pally is at the moment?

I know back before I quit sk's were the "in" tank and from what I have read they still are, but I don't wanna play sk.

Any or all replies would be helpful.

I'd say the SKs are still the "in" tank, but Paladins are a close second. If you have the AAs you will have no problem hold agro at all.. Just sit there and be awesome. But if you're lacking in the AA department you're better off watching the mages and scouts tank as you sit there scrambling to get agro back :-P
I think almost everyone agrees that with all the similarly geared tanks, Paladins will hold agro the most.. However I always felt like our class had the shaft compaired to Warriors with defensive capabilities, but then I made a Zerker, got him to 80 and found I was very wrong. My 80 Paly can survive 10x the encounters that my 80 zerker would fail horribly at.
I don't do any MTing on raids, but when it comes to groups I am very happy with how my class plays. Playing a zerker is sooo dull compaired to Paly I must say

its a good choice all around top notch aggro control, high survivability, and if played right pretty solid dps.

Guardians are still the MT of choice if your considering raiding Paladins tend to have the off tank slot in most raid set ups.

However your biggest problem will be getting a slot in a rading guild
as its not very often Guilds look for MT or off tanks and they mostly recruit in house first.

If you just want to group and do instances and maybe grab a pick up raid now and again then Paladin is a great and versatile choice and a little rarer than the hundreds of SK's that are around at the moment but in fairness they were nearly extinct when ROK came out so they have had some SOE love.

Zerkers got the big Nerf stick ages ago and are now rarer than Moheghans and Paladins.

Every piece of gear you get makes you so damn good.
I sit with 2 T4 meaning TSO x4 raids,
I have 7 T3, Ward of Elements, (but now use the 2 T4)
When i had my T2, (crafted shard armor, second level) I noticed how much more of a bad ass we really were, started topping parses, major skills going on.
Now, we can stand so well to mobs since we have some equally geared, and well playing healers, that I can focus on more how to output my damage. Life is good as a Pally.

I've got 6-piece TSO (missing BP... they are stingy on the shadow BP patterns) on my alt paladin and am starting to pick up more of an OT roll in my guild's raids for encounters when my paladin helps more than my illy. I think my spec is pretty good for crusader and paladin but not sure how my shadow line is. It's pretty much what's listen in the consolidated paladin AA thread but I think it can be better. Is holy ground worth putting the 5 points into? What about the improved taunt line? I have 200 AA and all masters so I'm just looking for some more experienced paladin input here. Thanks alot!

Its worth reduciung the recast of HG... yes... its our most powerful positional taunt and as an OT its one you'll use the most of.

don't bother improving taunt line.. there are so many things more valuable

Thanks for the quick replies. One last question... There's much discussion about adornments - some say parry is good but others say not to get it but the mitigation adornments. My defense is about 520 unbuffed in defensive but parry is 437. Any thoughts?
