If i wanted to take shots at Cata i would think of something worse to say, and thats exactly what i meant to say Delecor/Brallin. We've had a few Cata people and/or their alts on our open raids and for the most part they've seemed pretty cool
It's the nature of the game for people to want to move on to something better. I dealt with it for over 2 years as a guild master in EQOA (leaders were called masters there for some dumb reason), and I've dealt with it here, as leader of 2 different guilds so far.
You have guilds like what Gestalt was, raiding T6/T7, with some fairly knowledgeable people. When we wanted to we could hit 20k DPS... I know 20k is nothing, but when you're raiding with people that probably have app2s still... The leaders would help the others learn their class better, and as the others learn how to play better, they want to raid better content, so they left. Thats where guilds like GoW come in, altho jumping from a guild that couldn't get into DT to a guild that was taking pulls on PHH 2 weeks after you join is a fairly big leap.
With GoW, we were basically stuck at the same point for 4 months, if not longer (I believe i was there for the first kill on the last named in FTH but thats about it for guild firsts). A few people decided to take a break until the expansion releases. Others had a LOT of RL stuff going on, and we didn't have people to replace them.
When you come to a halt like that, something will eventually give.
Thats where guilds like Cataclysm come in.

People want to raid a bit more often, or want to progress further. Guess what. Cata does both

. They might not get the avatars yet, but they will eventually.
Then at the top of the ladder, you have guilds like Defiance

... the guilds where most people that really enjoy raiding would like to be someday.
