Default Dev "grandfathers in" stoneskin item for scouts in PVP

I bring to your attention this thread on the official forums:

Stoneskin still exists for scouts!

I wanted to continue the discussion here, since I wanted to use stronger language than is allowed on the official forums.

What happened was, the Itemization Dev put in a cloth item that could be equipped by all classes. That cloth item INCLUDED A 10% PROC THAT WOULD ABSORB ANY, AND I REPEAT ANY, DAMAGE ONE TIME.

When she apparently realized the magnitude of this error, rather than changing the effect and nerfing the item, she changed the item only for new drops. Previously existing items already in game were allowed to keep the stoneskin proc.

And her response? Let me quote it:

Quote:
The only thing that would cause me to readdress it at this point would be some solid evidence that it's causing a substantial game imbalance and ruining the play experience of a large number of players.
I'm sorry, EXCUSE ME? Have you ever tried to PVP against a scout wearing one of these? So you decided to allow a "few" players in the gank classes that need advantages like this as much as I need a hole in the head to keep a permanent godlike item?

Do you realize how significantly imbalancing it is for even a couple hardcore pvp scouts on server to have this? That means they can run around ganking as they please and I just lost the ability to beat them one on one.

In my opinion, this is bullshit, this is lazy, this is wrong.

You want ME to prove to YOU that this is imbalancing to a "LARGE" number of players? Ok, then give me your server logs and access to your system, I don't have that kind of information, YOU DO. What are you asking me to do, PVP every scout on the server then examine my logs after each one? Horse hockey.

I strongly urge you to correct this mistake. If you are worried about taking something away from players who've paid a large amount of plat to gain superhuman powers and exploit their fellow players, may I suggest you change the effect on the item so it can still be equipped by all. Hell, if you just removed the stoneskin proc and left on the generous group power proc, it would still be a decent item.

But don't double the ebay value of the scouts who have the pre-nerf version, don't elevate certain players to God status at my expense and at the expense of the rest of the players on Nagafen.

Scouts should not be able to have 10% stoneskin items, but mages shouldn't be able to stack stoneskin items up to 30%.

JUST IMO

In all honesty the stoneskin proc is unreliable at best - i agree that on scouts its grossly overpowered but there have been plenty of times when i was wearing it and it procced 0 times in a fight, usually it only procs 1 or two times, rarely 3-4. I do think it was a bit lazy for the devs to do it this way - but people spent time/money getting these items and i think its kinda unfair to take it away with no reimbursement. Maybe decrease the proc chance on th e existing unchanged items? i dunno - im a mage so i know what your saying, trust me but i know id be pissed if i had spent effort getting an item only to have it changed so as to be untradable and unusable (maybe make it annatuned so they can at least broker it?

Sorcerers woudn't be able to get stoneskins items. They already got manashield.
And especialy warlocks with AA that increase proc chance, and with the book that proc a buff that give 25% more chance to proc, combined to maanshield and nullmail.

Grandfathering by definition doesn't work for game balance because it is prior activities that are causing the change in the first place. The fix never gets applied directly to the culprit.

Wise words in a nutshell.
Grandfathering is an irrational practice that simply rewards those who drop everything they're doing to get in on the overpowered activity before it got nerfed.
Imagine if they grandfathered plat from a dupe or something. Seriously. Lol.

And more proof that half the staff for SOE has no clue what the player base thinks. Maybe if they stopped banning people off the forums who actually gave critical input they'd hear the customers voices.
