Re: Raiding in FP and Qeynos
This item hits you for five percent of your base health(Not five percent of your current max health)
The damage is absorbed by magi's shielding. After four or five spells magi's shielding is worn out. You cast a spell and you are hit for about two percent of your current max hp. Then magi' shielding refreshes. Rinse and repeat.
If you can't use this item without issue, your healers are idiots. One overloaded heal item on a priest will make this item have 0 effect on your mage's survivability. A warding dog, or a static ward, or a item proc effect ward, there are so many options to make this item do no damage whatsoever to your person... and in exchange give you 10 percent more damage.

Most all of those guys started out on single faction. Their location doesn't make them any more or less good at their class. It was simply the FACT..that people who I would consider 'strong raiders' thrive on getting results for their time and effort, and these results come a bit faster when you have all classes available to you. Thereby giving exile faction a much greater selection of 'strong raiders' to choose from.
All raiders are pretty good tbh, I never saw too many people who didnt know their classes role in raids .. some are faster on the draw than others yeah..but any city faction guild's raids would be better if the 'strong raiders' remained in the cities and continued to BE in those guilds. They don't though. The same personality type that makes a hardcore raider what they are..makes them short on patience for results, and they're drawn to whoever is getting them fastest, period... perpetuating the cycle that ENSURES city faction will never have the same quality raid force as exile faction has.

I dont know where you raided but I saw some positively horrible raiders. Swashies that didnt crack 300 dps and wizards strugging to do 500. Its a brain drain. Skilled players tend to gravitate towards other skilled players. Possibly why half the guild leaders on venekor eventually wound up in DoM.
An old friend of mine joined me in exile recently after having been city bound for 2 years. After a couple days in exile he sends me a tell and I can tell he is very excited. He says "dude this is so awesome. Im in my third pickup group today and I havent had to tell anyone what to do, they all have just known." He was stunned that people knew wtf to do. Any moron can play in the city and level to 80.

right on.
after being in exile for 9 months now, i never even think about this anymore. i just expect every single person that i group with to play their class exceptionally well, without being told what they need to do or where they need to be standing. it's only after i go back to a city and play some of my higher level alts that i realize just how woefully mediocre most casual or semi-hardcore players are. i try to avoid PUG's like the plague, but once in awhile i dive into one and hope for the best. i usually see about 1 in 10 players who really know what they're doing, 7 in 10 who are straight up average, and 2 in 10 who are either retarded or pretending to be for some reason.

Well I definately won't argue with that because it's true. That IS what is draining the city faction guilds though atm, and it does increase the difficulty of raid zones that are harder to start with for single faction when the handful of people who could make a difference for a raid force have made off.
But yeah..even on blue servers your gonna have that problem. The difference is on pvp servers, there's a lot less people interested in raiding seriously to start with, and they're split into their factions, so with very little to pull from..the..quality..of a city raid force..does suffer. (as nicely as I can put that..)
The problem is definately magnified on a pvp server though compared to a blue.

Yep, and that extends all the way up to recruiting for guilds like Kraken and Onyx as well. It's not like a PVE server where a guild like NPU, SD, or CL can literally recruit worldwide because they have a line of skilled players willing to pay $50 for a server xfer just for a chance to be a recruit in one of those guilds. All they have to do is put up a "Recruiting for the following classes:" post somewhere and they'll get the apps rolling in... raid geared, experienced apps...
...we don't get that on Nagafen due to the demographics. It's kind of a pain in the ass for us sometimes too. >=/

Re: Raiding in FP and Qeynos
Yup. Id even say 1 in 3 recruits actually make the cut. Not usually for lack of skill but for the inability to make the minimum attendance requirements. I doubt guilds like Strike or NPU have that much trouble finding raiders that can make the grade.
