Re: Dear Devs
Sorry idiots, I agree with the OP, and disagree with this ambassador and other slow people.
Our system is seriously fucked up. Allow me to point out why. First of all, let us all realize that somehow FFA PVP being incredibly back-stabby and intolerably gangbangy would make the game not fun, is all very incorrect. With proper restrictions, like Immunity at Crossroads, Immunity on Zek Fortress, Immunity on Enchanted Land Docks, Immunity at Mar Village, Immunity at Ferrott docks, Immunity on specific locations in EVERY zone, and immunity to only take effect withn 8-11 seconds, FFA PvP would not ward off new players, nor would it become intolerable for the faint of heart.
FFA, in of itself, attracts way more people into the Fray. Face it, games that are FFA have historically shown aptness to attract way more people into the game. Well, while team based games have also done pretty well (Battlefield, Command and Conquer, ect.) these are games which happen, are over, and everyone restarts. Let's look at games which are dislike that. EVE Online, Guild Wars, ect. generally have success as a result of FFA styled pvp.
Now many will point to WoW, and say LOL IN FAVOR OF GROUP V GROUP PVP, and completely step beside the point that group-v-group pvp is no where near related to their success. Their success is in casual game play, and lets not forget that. If anything, we've seen how small the population of preferred Team v Team PvP is (in that teams are forced, not simply allowed). Yes it is important that people have the choice to pick a team without a feel of randomness to the team. For example, EVE Online has large success because they are integrated PvP while teams are picked on their own. In EQ2, we picks guilds within the team, and that makes guilds useless almost, except for sharing resources. That doesn't mean guilds are completely useless, just considerably less useful compared to corporation in EVE Online when you consider the team v team as a whole.
Of course we can fucking pick Evil or Good, and then even get Exile! Yay! This doesn't mean jack squat. You don't get to talk to "everyone" and decide who you like best without going out of you way (This makes it a hinderance, and then henders new people from staying that just came for good PvP). You can point out all you want how they can just go to all the sides and check everyone out. But again, why should they when they can just go to another game and have just as good PvP?
The arguments in favor of the way EQ2 PvP is now includes so many if ands and buts that it's ridiculous. Too many exceptions exist, in terms of whether a newbie will stay or not. Too many Entering costs exists... and by this I don't mean money to play or coin used in game to buy things. Infact, the fact that coin is so easy to get and things are so considerably easier to buy in this game than most other games is the only freaking reason PvP is still at ALL alive right now. Not because of anything else. The two main reasons PvP is alive, because people have been playing EQ2 to begin with, and are now just playing EQ2 because it's what they're used to, and how easy it is to buy stuff here. But these 2 factors are very big in of themselves. I mean, sure, we got nagafen, Venekor and Vox... which can be fun if you make each of them out to be. But we can be better, and at the same time, without all the kiddies, by making the games require more than just "choose side" at the beginning, and being restricted to that side until you decide to restart or switch you're character over, which are both a limiting factor which is a result of being a pain in the ass.
In conclusion, the OP is right, and you're all wrong.
BY THE WAY IDIOTS! Before you respond, my highest level and main is a 36 Warden Exiled on Nagafen.
Don't even go about insulting me. I am taking the hardest route because I find it enjoyable, asswhipes.
Final Edit- Something I failed to explained while ranting... ugh... I hate when I go crazy.
Back to evidence why Team v Team pvp has a limited population.
Well Everquest 2 is one of the examples. There are 3 types of games when it comes to respect of PvP. People who don't give a crap (biggest), people who love FFA (second biggest), people who love Team v Team (pussy children and minority of adults with actual logical reasons misled). I've seen it myself on Gamespy and other games. When a big game like Battlefield came out, every other Team v Team game that I knew about (almost all of them), dramatically reduces in population. There was no population flexability. Same goes for games like EQ2, and when Warhammer comes out, people are scared shitless of how the population will be. Well, luckily, most of us here in EQ2 are not Team v Team pro, we just pretend we are because it's already there. Most of us in EQ2 just fall under "I don't give a shit and want a good game".
While every time some great FFA pvp came comes out, games like EVE Online only GROW! It's because there are so many people intrigued by FFA pvp that have typically not played so many videogames before that the population just becomes so very fat (in a muscular sort of way). As a result of complicated FFA interaction of games like EVE Online and Guildwars, the stupid are weeded out and a still good chunk of population is left over to keep the game running.
The conclusion is - Eat my shorts if you disagree.

Re: Dear Devs
I tried to read, but failed. That was the worst written book I've seen in my life. I'm not here to be a grammar or spelling nazi, but please try to stay on topic for more then one sentence.
