Biggest pros, imho. FFA PvP (even with factions) is the way to go, but a game really needs to be designed with that in mind from the ground up.
And being able to duel guildies outside of Haven is both fun and helpful for refining strats.

Your quote in parentheses is the key there. I'll say what I've been saying all along: it's the 24 people on the raid that make the difference when it comes to killing hard mobs, not the classes they're playing. You don't "need" a templar or illusionist or brigand to kill anything in this game.
Case in point: Resurrection in exile (even after stealing mythicals), vs Kraken in Freeport currently. We've already outprogressed them (we EASILY 2nd pulled Druushk last raid, and Nexona is going to die soon once we can train up some newer raiders) from a city faction. Then again, I don't think this is a surprise to anyone. ;)

- No purchaseable city signets/clickies.
- Difficult to PvP with people sometimes as AEs do damage to anybody not in your group/raid--this includes guildies.
- No city housing. Houses can be purchased in Maj'Dul if you want a house (requires faction work + a quest if you want a call to Maj'Dul)

All of that is accurate, but I would say it's also irrelevant in the big picture. The only exceptions being possibly 2 of the signets (AE avd and AE res), but we've been raiding in FP so far without them and I don't think we'll need them. Doesn't mean we won't use em to make life easier, but it's very doable without them. ;)

Probably one of the bigger drawbacks to exiling. PvP gear is mindblowingly easy to get compared to raid gear, and it's almost exactly on par. Many pieces of PvP gear (the jewelry in particular) absolutely blow away raid quality fabled gear. PvP gear with reactive control effects like fear/detarget are THE biggest game-changing effects out there.

Eh, go beat on some rocks for awhile. Moving back to a city is a big enough decision that you should have no problem spending some plat or some time farming to get your AD3's back!

Having seen it from both sides of the fence now, I would say that the only way cities really have it easier is in how effortless it is to obtain powerful PvP gear compared to raiding. I can argue that virtually every "negative" about being in exile is essentially irrelevant to a hardcore player.
But yes, make sure you have friends waiting for you in exile (or coming with you), or it could be painful. =)
