Default What would make you want to PvP?

A large part of the high end server population has the skill and gear to succeed in PvP, but they choose to raid instead. Through only raiding, they burn out and eventually quit, or are only hanging around unil they find something better.

I want to emphasize that while a large part of PvP is about the ruleset, an even greater part is about the people and the groups we go out to fight. I'll be the first to say that I'm not really a PvPer - outside of contested, it doesn't come naturally to me. It's true that I'm a raider, but I have some common interest in PvP if it helps me keep the skilled/trained/geared raiders I have happy, versus constantly replacing them as they move to other games or even PvE.

People come to me saying that I'm one of the best geared tanks on the server, with access to some of the best PvPers on the server to make up my groups. Why don't I go out to fight much more than I do? And that's a fair question. I also enjoy dueling with my guardian, because it allows me to play the game using rules that I find enjoyable. I thought about why I enjoy 1v1s so much, and thought about how to apply that fun to group PvP.

We're over-regulated with excess rules that take away from the game in their abuse. I was active and involved in Rallos Zek PvP, and the highpoint of that server was basically the politics of FFA where at any point, anyone could be your friend or your enemy. Ideallly I'd like to see everyone on the server log in tomorrow as an Exile with the Q/FP quests disabled, but that probably won't happen.

These are the rules that, if they were in play, would allow me to enjoy group pvp alot more than I do right now:

Remove permanent immunity from evac, death, docks
Remove all forms of evac within combat
Remove communication barrier between factions
Remove class restrictions for both factions

Fix charm in PvP so that it is cureable
Give PvP writs/gear to exiles at tripple cost due to the increased number of targets.
Allow Qeynos/FP players into Haven for carnage PvP.
You may not revive (only be resurrected by another player) while any member of your raid or party is in PvP combat.

If you wish to lose or take fame, you may not be immune to attacks from any level character at any time, even after death.

I know I'm dreaming, but I'd love to see all classes somehow available for both cities, and remove exiled all together, unless for changing factions. Pick a side, beat the crap out of each other. FP vs. Qeynos. This is just one of the changes I'd like to see, along with some of the aforementioned game mechanics.

remove all faction barriers, true FFA pvp, no communication, guilding, or barriers of any kind. Also no loss of spells upon changing cities at that point, unless you change to a different class.

I don't know how to word this, but instead of picking up writs for tokens, why not PVP points? The more you kill, the more points you get, and said points scale on the con of people you kill. Like you get nothing for grays, a little for greens, some for blues, normal for whites, above average for yellows, even more for oranges, and a lot of reds. Of course, items would have to cost a ton more to fit said points. Hell, let's call the points "figs."

While all classes for all factions could be possible, even for the roleplayer-types (the necromancer in Diablo II was a hero even though he's a necromancer, for instance,) a paladin in FP would be odd. I mean, look what happened to Lucan!

Good/Evil players should get into Haven somehow. I know exactly where the zone clicky is, but damnit, I should get in!

And fix the goddamn summoners.

I'm one of those people that "left for PVE", due largely to the mechanics issues that the devs don't care to take time to fix. They see EQ2 PvP as such a small community that it's not worth devoting much developer time to. Well, fine, whatever, but it's going to remain a small community if you shit all over it by neglecting to balance the ruleset and listen to the players. There is such potential for great PvP in this game, but the balance and mechanics have never supported it.

I would like to see the EQ2 PvP community massively expand over the next 6-12 months, but without direct and dramatic dev intervention it's just going to continue to disappoint. =|

Some good ideas so far.

20 sec immunity when zoning, evac, rezzing. Thats it.
No in combat movement speed buffs.
No tracking while stealth or invisible.
No in combat evac.
Fame and rewards based on solo/group/raid relative to the strength of the pvp target.
True FFA unless grouped or guilded.
