Thinking of playing EQ2

I want to get EQ2 but I am just unsure of some things. I know that dueling is the only available PvP in PvE servers (or so im told), so i am a little curious about the PvP servers. How is PvP in EQ? Is it fair/ fun?
Is the only difference between PvE and PvP servers the open PvP aspect? How does a templar fair in PvP?

PvE only has duels, which don't even follow the correct PvP mechanic. If you're gonna start playing EQ2, I 100% recommend playing on a PvP server (Nagafen).

Get used to dying, it will probably happen a lot.

Templar is one of the best group PVP classes, because of Sanctuary.. and although not a lot of Templars solo, I think they're pretty good solo when played well.

The average person's idea of solo pvp is killing someone before your abilities recharge. Sure, not too much you can do if someone wants to run away but 9 times out of 10 if they fight to the death, they'll lose. Even then, if they ran away, at least you didn't die.

There is also special gear that is only available on the PvP servers. You can earn this gear by doing a series of PvP writs. The low level pvp rewards are not really worth it but the top end pvp rewards are pretty nice.

As Milambers said, join a PVP server and Nagafen is HIGHLY recommended because the other PVP servers doesn't have that much PVP from what I've heard. Is it fair? Depends a bit on the tier but in general, the balance is unfair, especailly in t8 where scouts, SKs and some melee classes rule the tier.

So do be prepared to die alot unless you have decent/good gear, skills, good AA and are not a necro.

Is it fun? Personally, I enjoy how the PVP is formed with the exceptance of writs (Which currently promotes groups to gank solo players) and class balance (Complete class balance is impossible anyways and all MMORPGs with PVP has problems with it).

What kind of class do you enjoy playing as? Caster, scout, tank or healer?

Thx for the info, I will definetly be rolling Nagafen when I play. I started and played a templar which I enjoyed and I will probably stick to it. Also I will travelling with my friends so hopefully that means we won't get ganked as much lol.

btw you guys are saying necro is a bad idea... what about the conjurer? my friend wants to play one and supposedly the best PvE combo to run through levels is berserker, wizard, conjurer and a healer which is what my friends and I are doing.
