I have an idea that will save/greatly enhance PvP in EQ2
I have posted this before on the offical forums so it's been out there before but I want to see what happens here. Got some thumbs up and some thumbs down but overall most people liked it. I think it's one of those million dollar ideas. SOE I am sure is too stupid to implement it, but here goes anyway ....
Raid PvP instances
Group PvP instances
Solo PvP instances
This is NOT the arena !
It is a bit similar to WoW battlegrounds but WAAAAYYY better !
Simply put ... create instances that people can PvP AND adventure in. The instance would function just like any other, would have mobs names and even shard quests, the main difference being people from an opposing faction can zone in and you battle over the zone.
This idea has so much potential for creativity and something new and fun it's amazing.
One idea I had would be instances where 1 grp zones in on one side and the other grp on the other side and they fight towards the middle to face each other.
Another was just straight up guild hall PvP.
The idea can be tweaked in many different ways.
Some significant points ...
1. Writ updates and fame hits apply in these instances.
2. Lock-out and Recent timers need to be in place just like anything else.
3. If it's a solo instance only 1 opposing player can zone in. If it's grp only 1 other grp, if it's raid only 1 other raid can zone in.
4. Your opponent is totally random (but the same level) and anonymous.. meaning you cannot pick your opposition.
5. You cannot revive in these instances, you can only get rezzed back in. Once your grp is wiped thats it, you can only rev outside the zone and you cannot zone back in and you get a lock-out timer for the zone.

How about they leave it like it is with worldwide pvp and lock pvp encounters once both sides engage. Then no leeching or a second group just happens to fly in. Shouldn't matter size of group either encounter to encounter.
Instances will just remove a main percentage of the people from real world play for writs and everything else. Perfect groups will sit in a instances they have a good strat/positioning for and wait to get others.
I would like to see dueling available to pvp servers. Maybe with options for coin loss...fame...etc.

You can pvp with your own faction, if you /duel them, it uses pvp rules and once per day you can get full pvp credit including fame, if you both agree to a fame duel.
edit toa dd it just starts a fight, but it is locked to those two players, and they can not zone until one of them is dead. no ring, whole zone pvp

-Battling over control of a zone would be neat, zonewide bonus to stats or faction/fame gain (something ppl would respond to, not that it would be worthwhile otherwise) or maybe exchange titles so they are associated with the dominant faction. Just do it to one or a couple of present zones, set a Keep or an area where the pvp battle outcome will determine the winner.

-Without much experience in WoW, I don't know if it's similar or if it is like what you describe from AoC. Wasn't all that great. Instance PVP would have to have LESS of a benefit (1/2 faction or fame and status, something so no one just sits up in these instances where it takes away from environment wild pvp play).

-Not sure what you mean, like AoC again? That was neat, but maybe a once a week raid lockout sort of deal. Bleh, would rather see that sort of thing later :/

Again, no new zone/instance needs implemented. I think it would take away from the fun of wild pvp. Make it concentrated somewhere in the present zones so scragglers questing can contribute if a /shout is presented?
Same-faction duels would be great. Fix the Arena... would be nice to practice on guildies, or even duel the prick that just need rolled a piece of loot and hash it out. Enjoyed some of those features in Exile.

I agree, the current arena has alot of potential to offer, if they actually fixed it up, it could contain all of what the op wants and more.

Doing something to improve the arena or changing it to somthing closer to what I suggested would be awesome.... but I doubt they are smart enough or capable of seeing the value in it.
SOE will try to make money no matter how much it costs them
