coming back... question to helpful & experienced t8 pvp'ers
hello eq2flames community.
german writer here. plz excuse my bumpy english.
~my background~
i quit eq2 pvp (nagafen, lvl65 mystic dogfather) nearly a year ago
because of the pvp system, which seemed to motivate people to
flee, play cheap or hug their group and/or safety zones.
since i never found another pvp mmorpg that could match eq2, i
kept reading the forums once in a while. Reading about the
upcoming gu51 pvp system changes made me decide to return to
nagafen.
i dont think the new gu51 pvp system is the best in the world, but
i think/hope it changes the psychological background for the better
and increases players' willingness to engage in pvp.
...does anybody know when the gu51 pvp change will be released?
~my questions~
i really like soloing melee healers in a pvp environment. now i plan to
start a warden or an inquisitor. what i would like to know is:
1. how do they fare in t8 solo pvp?
2. any classes they cant beat in t8 (assuming same quality of gear)?
3. i love fighting scouts... how balanced are fights against scout vs
melee healers in t8?
4. what is the bigger picture regarding class balance in t8 right now?
5. is the scaling of damage vs healing in t8 unbalanced?
any input or helpful advice is appreciated... thanks in advance.

1. how do they fare in t8 solo pvp? They die. But they are a bitch to kill on some classes...you'll have the most trouble with any class that can spike really high damage, like assasins, if they catch you off guard. SKs seem to be an irritation as well, not like they can actually spike me (I play a warden) but they can manatap and do just enough damage that dropping below half is a big threat...effing HT. Your biggest issue will be less surviving and more of killing the person before someone else happens upon you, as there is no such thing as a fast healer battle. Kneebiting people to death ftl. Healer vs healer fights have also been known to go on for hours if they both know anything about their class.
2. any classes they cant beat in t8 (assuming same quality of gear)? As stated before, your issues will be mostly with spike damage classes...but then it depends on your gear as well. Theres an inky on Venny that is half jokingly referred to as a single person x2...he's taken on full groups and his proc gear (dispersion gear, star of malice, a ring off Byzola that escapes my memory, etc.) keeps him at insane pow and health regen.
3. i love fighting scouts... how balanced are fights against scout vs
melee healers in t8? If they get the jump on you and know what their class can do, good chance they can kill you. Your only real defense is healing through til their timers are down and then catching them before they run off. But if I can see the scout coming, or get the jump on him, I can stop him from doing much to me and just nuke/kneebite him to death.
Scouts are actually some of the fastest battles I have, they dont seem take damage very well and cant nuke me from afar, and brigand+purity=win. Vs a mage that just nukes the piss out of me with one or two hits, I can cure/heal a scouts bunch of little hits decently easy.
4. what is the bigger picture regarding class balance in t8 right now?
No one plays EQ2 for PvP balance. The majority of some classes are still gonna be easy kills (necros, conjys, the occasional fury) and some are gonna be "easymode" (rangers, brigs)...Ask anyone and they'll say their class is underpowered. TBH though, I don't think this game is nearly as unbalanced as some of the whiners would have you believe.
5. is the scaling of damage vs healing in t8 unbalanced?
Depends on the opponent. Equally geared, not too much...some healers if played right have the ability to eventually kill anyone in the game. The trick is that usually this is highly situational, and often times the classes you already have hard times with get an edge by using better location, getting the jump on you or just having better gear (or god forbid, be a better player)...I've seen a warden and an inky each demolish a full group, and I've seen others get smashed to bits.
any input or helpful advice is appreciated... thanks in advance.

Also please note, I play on Venekor, the red headed bastard twin of Vox. So my PvP expertise is really only limited to me or me and one or two other people vs small groups or solos....on occasion we get the steamroll full group or unflagged x2 looking for updates, but nowhere near what Naggy is.

Re: coming back... question to helpful & experienced t8 pvp'ers
very interesting read... thank you for your great help desna!
there is one more question i would like to ask, since you wrote
about the danger of spike damage.
-> is cc a viable option to get enough time to heal back (if i
remember right: the wardens knockback on attack or the inquis
fear or mez or...) or are the resists too high?
p.s. yes i read about this "thorny x2 inquis" while searching the
forums. he seems to be extremely good. i will never be that good
or be able to get such a great gear so my situation in t8 pvp will
never be comparable to his superior situation.

Re: coming back... question to helpful & experienced t8 pvp'ers
Wardens get Gale, an ability that roots them in place but gives the group increased defense and a chance to proc a knockback. This is a pvp warden's best friend, as it definitely lessens the damage coming in...provided you can get it off before they kill you, as is the issue in quite a bit of scout battles I come across. If they get the jump on me, I'm usually healing my ass off for the first bit so they dont kill me outright; I don't have time to cast a 2 second non-heal in the middle of it. But yeah, as solo general rules follow Gale ASAP and Purity often.
As an inquis...I have a 50 inky as well...and resists on fears tend to be obnoxiously high in t8, and mezzes really not much better. Hell, my warden's Master 1 root and other Adept 3 root both barely ever actually stick to my opponent.
the god of gear for any pvp healer: the fear proc earring, forget the name, of RoK gear. Thing procs like mad and makes soloing ANYTHING easy; its the part I miss the most after I exiled. There are also other items in game that give nice procs to avoid damage, like the Thule fear cloak, the little hand statue in some GHs and houses that give a fear proc, dispersion gear, some assorted stun gear...
Also, if you're tryign to decide between inky and warden, look at their epic weapons and mythicals as well, since it's become so easy for people to get their mythicals now.
Warden=with enough heal crit, you never run out of power in groups. 50% of critical heal returns a mass amount of power, like 400 each crit, and more from the mythical. The mythical also allows a damage shield/immune to damage for 12 seconds (cannot be put on you).
Inky=I donno what the inky epic gives, but the mythical is insane...basically a cure of every kind of detriment and heal for each cured...all on a 15 second recast. And groupwide.
Inky myth is fantastic for soloing vs the warden's, since wardens' weps work better for group healing vs solo (the power doesnt proc as much if only one person in group, since each group heal has a chance to proc individually).
Bunch of other weps out there too of course.
