Default Re: State of our Class - Rangers

Good post Raging, that sums it all up nicely, and in a respectable way too. The only thing about it I'm not a big fan of is the thought that adding some obscure utility would make our #s on the parse justified, to add that much utility would completely change the class. I guess depending on what it was and how much it affected what we did dmg wise it could be allright.

Anyways, I've always thought of our utility is making the best use of the utility of other classes. IA is the goto example of this as we generally benefit most from it, the extra dps we could put out with it vs any other class with it is what our utility is.

However, since late EOF to ROK present our DPS has been taking a nosedive to the point where we are dependent on almost any and all buffs we can get and still fall short, so having a ranger in raid is lowering potential dps by quite a lot.
In my experience its at least a ranger + IA = assassin, thats taking 2 classes to meet 1. Why not take someone else who already parses higher than we do without being buffed to the extreme then add the buffs to them instead?

I cant see why this isnt being addressed, since they have a direct way to balance our dps in having ammo with stats. They can pinpoint where they want our dps to be - if they wanted to. I really expect the epics to be the easy way around this problem, it should be something only the higher end rangers get, and apparently based on the lack of action so far, SOE sees this as only a high end ranger problem, which it kind of is and kind of isnt

These are issues that have been brought up, by others, multiple times heh.

Still valid.

yeah, that was basically just a really long way to say 'bump'

and maybe a slightly different way to explain the problem each time will help get the point across, since the last time a dev wandered here they misquoted the hell out of something....

first of all take my comments from other sites in line with the scope of the topic. I like to be overly sarcastic on a certain one so often I don't mean things literally which you can see if you read the whole thread.

Second, I am looking to balance out the melee vs casters in vp a bit. Orange mobs are meant to be difficult to hit for any class so the casters can expect to see some hit rate changes to bring them in line a bit more.

Third, I stand by the ranger comment. Our data shows them exceling in all dps categories even with mechanics working against them. I've also seen them first hand do pretty well in pick up groups, soloing and in raids. So while you have a point that the mechanics are wrong its the same mechanics that you have been balanced against since the game was released. I will look into the arrow issue but keep in mind its not going to be just a straight bump the arrows to 80 kind of fix.
The thread: broken dps raid mechanics

This guy is a dumb fuck. Who does good in pug's? Raid equipped rangers? What level are the mobs in pug's? Yellow at the most, usually blue or white?

This guy does realise that his argument is self-defeating...right?

It's idiots like this, and yes I realise you read this site Aerilak, that screw over classes. Disparity sucks and you're the cause.

Below is a copy of a PM I sent Aeralik, yes I realize I am a fool to expect it might even be read let alone replied to, but I had to try.

Aeralik, I would be thrilled if a dev would just once in 9 years respond to me.

you said -> I am looking to balance out the melee vs casters in vp a bit. Orange mobs are meant to be difficult to hit for any class so the casters can expect to see some hit rate changes to bring them in line a bit more.

Heh I think we were all hoping to see that happen in the reverse fashion. :p

Sure if we use a T7 bow with T7 ammo we can still do alright. But I have to ask you then what is the point in offering us T8 bows, Vol'Drath has been in my inventory for about a month, but I am equiping RSB, c'mon man that can't be intended.

In EQ1 you all finally broke down and gave us Howl of the Predator, a group buff that increased attack by 75. Granted that is not effective in EQ2 but a similar boost to dps or melee/ranged crit or DA % would be.
Personally I think we are due a helpful utility, why are we the only scout class in the game without one? There is no reason that a guild should be looking at any class in this game as unwarranted. I'm quite sure that is not intended.

If you have taken the time to read this far, thank you for that. I have been paying you and playing your games since '98 and I am still here. I have rode the ranger "soe giveth and they taketh away" wave for about 8 years as a ranger, and I'm still here. I enjoy the game, I am in an understanding respectable guild, Clan of Shadows (Befallen) and I plan to stay around a while.

I'm a little older than most 50yrs in RL, and if that and 8-9 yuears of loyalty buys me anything? I have not seen a more concise representation of the ranger class forums in all that time until right now. You have given the ranger nothing but the ability to do dps better than most, thats it, name me something other than dps we are good for in a raid environment.

Currently, unless the rumours are true, and the epic bow summones T8 useable ammo, then there is no reason for us to look forward to the epic or any other ranger T8 bow, is that intended?

I know and respect that you guys have built a hell of an environment here, and I don't profess to understand or know better than any of you. But after this long we can't be entirely wrong either, you have to see that there is merrit in some of this.

Nevermind the fact that most of those rangers have a Rigid Scale Bow and now that Ammo is level 67 instead of 57, DT bows aren't required...

well thats just disappointing on so many levels....

we are balanced on broken mechanics.
we probably wont see 80 ammo from our epic.

even if we are excelling with mechanics working against us, why should we have to be working against them in the first place. (and excelling =/= "pretty well" and pretty well isn't cutting it tbh)
There is no possible way our DPS is where it needs to be if we cant get any primary weapon upgrade. period. ~Half our damage comes directly from our weapon, and not one of the 3 weapon slots really has any upgrade at all thus far. The increase other classes get in that department is totally unanswered for us.

They're using a broken mechanic to balance our dps rather than making better decisions when it comes to itemization.

Awesome.
