Comparing apples and pears IS stupid. Like you said, the other classes who topped you had their myth weapons and prolly some other good gear. IF you can get your myth some day, you will know what i mean. I was close to change my main just because my DPS sucked prior the myth, because i had to use RSB (i had voldrath, i had silvertipped, but they did less dps lol), i know how you feel. As for the buffs a ranger needs to do good dps.. every other class does too.

I will compare it with the wizz:
- ranger needs IA, wizz needs TC
- ranger needs rapidity, wizz needs tandem
- ranger needs fortissimo, wizz needs allegro
- ranger needs str buffs, wizz needs int (fortunatly he buffs himself)
- ranger needs CoB, wizz needs PotM
- ranger needs procs, wizz needs procs
With those conditions you can compare the two classes.
One important point, many people do not understand (maybe its just my pov):
There is no other class, that can do so much dps under some circumstances (have to move infight, have to fight ranged, get knocked back, etc) like a ranger can. I count that as some sort of "utility". Sure, you wont see that benefit when fighting some stupid trashmobs. But giving rangers some sort of "utility" just to equalize them on some mediocre level would imbalance them.
