Using that logic. Isnt a gps more effiecent and time saving then a map.
Sure make life easier. Im not saying to rely on it but why not use every tool we can. we look at act to see out crit info, damage, auto, and more why not use it for this. I never have used it to time and was just wondering.

If you don't need it to parse high numbers then by all means do what you have to. But don't label it a crutch heh. When I first came to this website to seek info on how to become better, I never used ACT for timings. By the time I finally got how to time my bow properly, I found out you could use ACT for sound triggers heh.

Regardless of how you do your dps, the fact that you can do your dps and not suck as a raider should be sufficient for anyone. If using sound triggers helps a person do better for their guild, how can you hold that against them?

It's better than sucking for your guild.

Am I the only one? I don't need some program beeping at me and sitting at the desk like pavlov's dog waiting to click a button...

I understand if it helps your dps in the short term, and to get used to the timings if maybe you don't play a ranger all the time and aren't in synch with the rhythm of fighting and ranged arts, but I just can't see it all the time.

Anyone else?

-Hexus-

From my limited experience - mostly T7 KoS raiding - and mostly in some tank heavy, buff-light (i.e. rare appearance of enchanters or bards) raiding alliance type things...

The downside of timing AA with this method is that they have the potential to increase the gap between casual raiding rangers and those who do it *coughs* for a living.

Do I use it? Not currently, mostly because I am a little short on system ressources, but as this is likely to change very soon, I can see myself trying it out.

That being said, I am still a casual raider. No matter how good I may parse, that is unlikely to change because of RL.

So, I would just say that I do not consider it a crutch, but I would say that any extreme tweaking of playstyles is going to do damage to the perception of rangers' potential DPS as a class.

When other people who play rangers and raid with me ask me how I parse as well as I do, I can give them a few pointers, but I am not going to suggest that they use this method. That being said, I just try to get as much out of the knowledge I have... And, I have been playing this ranger as my main since launch, so it follows that I should benefit from that somehow.

So... whose fault is it that rangers are not parsing good enough to get a raid spot? I am not going to disagree with most people's assessment that SOE bears the brunt of the blame, but I would also point out that - in my opinion - 5% of the blame must be shared by those 5% of the ranger player base who have learned how to play their ranger (arguably the most challenging pure DPS class of this game) to such a majestic level.

So, yes... I am congratulating you folks! Hehe...

After reading this tread I installed that plug-in for my ACT and my Parse raised 300 DPS Zone wide on several raids.

I think its great that some ppl have that "feel" that it takes to be one with their bow, But I dont have that. Its also hard for me to say if a stiffle / Stun / knockback / whatever just effected my Autoattack timers. That way ACT is helping me out.

Now I got a question. So how do you make ACT notify me when poisons running out. What text string should it look for?

I don't see the issue with using ACT. I'm a fan of learning do to things the hard way first than using the shortcuts. That way if for any reason it breaks down or the system doesn't work you still can function. Simply using the parser doesn't make it a crutch, only been dependent on it.

Productivity counts in a raid force. If ACT garuntee's productivity, I don't care how much of a crutch it is, you win at being a raider.

i think if you have played ur ranger long enuff , u shouldnt need this but thats just imo. Play this class long enuff u should just have a feel for it, also that beep would annoy me when im listening to music but i dont think its a cruch just takes alot less skill imo.

I've actually set this up and used it for a while now, as well. I feared the idea of being dependent on the beeps, but figured any means to a better end was worth the trying of it. And in the end, I found it just confirmed my rhythm, if anything, allowing for quick refining as needed - more of a confirmation than anything.

What I do like about having it, however, is that since I've included the misses, too (I just want to know when an AA has gone off, period), it's all the more clear if you've got something blocking your AA, a distance issue, or whatnot - which at times happens, even though everything else is seemingly going along fine. I get tickled hearing double attacks going off as well, but that's just bonus footage. Oh, and I sure as hell don't use the beep that comes with ACT. Snagged a very small bip that blends into the background enough to not get annoying. Poison notifications are also gold. I love it.
