Default Re: Why are you still raiding on a ranger?

It's a bow thing.

I have been playing a ranger for 7 years now maybe longer? Yeah I heard it all from every excuse to every nerf. SOE continues to make the ranger one of the hardest classes to play.
On EQ1 we were next to nothing but once we reached the level max it was all worth it. Deadly SOB's we were!
EQ2 A little different.
The Ranger is a terriffic class with many skills and if you are good at playing one you can become very successful. Hell who cares about DPS raid wide parse. To me if I make the top 10 on every fight and we defeat the mobs and the zone as a guild we set out to defeat then move on to the next day.
Personally with the ups and downs of playing the ranger it only takes a couple of days to get used to the changes.
I did notice one thing one day there were Rangers scattered all about Norrath it was a good thing to see. In todays world of Norrath the rangers have become endangered.
Sad but true. I lost some good ranger friends to betrayal.
It's not that we suck guys/gals I for one enjoy seeing other scouts out DPS me it makes you work harder on the next fight. Hell I hit a boss mob last week for a 23k crit Sniper Arrow shot lol you should have heard the comments about that LOL made my day. I still top the chart from time to time.
It shows me that we are working together as a team and not hung up on being the best. Who the slackers are and who are not .
It's only numbers.
Take pride in your ranger work hard play hard and good things will happen. Prove others wrong about our class and stop complaining about where you should be. Nobody cares about DPS as long as the zone is completed and everybody goes to bed with a smile every day brings a new adventure I think other classes fear the Ranger. They should we rock!

One last comment it's about damn time SOE gave us an EPIC bow over a stupid sword. Whoo hoo /chuckle thanks SOE

Have a nice day

I'm rolling a Dirge.
But I'm sure the masochist in me will always make Ily my first love and drive me to keep her current.
But right now, there is no feasible reason for me to keep raiding on her. All she does is take up space that could easily be filled by a class doing both more damage AND having more overall usefullness.

Fuck SOE for making Ranger a class that has no niche.

My ranger has a niche!!

He sits outside keeping an eye on the door so no one disturbs the raid while playing online poker tournements. Pulled off 2nd place in a 90 player one just last night! Yes it was fake money but a ranger has to have something to keep him occupied while guarding the front door.

Yep, I never said you couldn't enjoy your class. However a casual raid force doesn't have much to worry about when it comes to optimization. However if you wish to be the absolute best force you can be, it doesn't include our class.

Also, unoptimized or not, Ranger should be top 5 on parse, usually.

Im gonna have to agree with Dantel here.

Roenick, its pretty clear that you definately raid in a more casual setting then a great many of us here. Dont get me wrong, I love playing my ranger. I have a lot of fun on that toon, but there comes a point when you have to ask yourself why. In the past, if another scout class beat me, I would certainly push harder then next fight to make sure that didnt happen, however in todays game, thats not even good enough to beat other skilled scouts on a parse. Sooner or later, the questions going to be asked in most, if not all, high end raiding guilds. Why the hell are we still bringing a ranger... who by the way, offers nothing in the way of buffs, and is easily out dps'ed by so many other classes.

High end raiding guilds dont bring classes along because they are "fun" to play. They bring ppl along because they want to make shit dead. Sure you can do that with a less then perfect raid, but if you can build a better raid, why not make the whole ordeal easier? With so many things working against us these days.... Arrow Mechanics, Hit Rates, Buffs that dont work with ranged, oversized hit boxes... it really makes it tough to fill the role a ranger was designed to do. Just like Assassins, Wizards and Warlocks... Rangers were meant to be hard burning DPS machines. Currently, we are mediocore at best. Sadly, that usually means warming a bench somewhere.

I play a ranger because I want to. I'm not going to betray because of all of this. That said, I'm definitely starting to feel the burden I place on the raid force. There used to be a pretty good reason to bring a ranger on a raid, now I feel like dead weight in a lot of scenarios. And it gets worse as the weeks pass especially since we got in Veeshan's.

I just sit and hope they will fix us soon. And I'm glad I have a sweet guild that isn't super hardcore on raid force optimization.

The guild I was formerly in had 2 Rangers, myself and Hexus. Hexus had a funky work schedule so SM gave me the opportunity to fill in for him when he wasn't around. Well I showed up all the time on time except for 2 days, with notification. Eventually Hexus got some free time and started showing up, but more-so, everyone including back-ups were showing.

It would eventually come to who has to sit out, and despite my desire to want to be there and contribute in a meaningful way, I couldn't fnid a valid reason to have myself in there along with Hexus when there were more useful classes waiting for a spot. Back-up or not, I felt obligated to the raid to sit out, and so would constantly voluntere in these circumstances (Hexus had seniority in my eyes).

Eventually this became a sort of trend of my sitting out and eventually led me down the road of quitting the guild, which I inevitably did.

I had no place in the raid force at all, and it wasn't from a lack of attendance or a lack of playing ability, but simply because my class < anyone else that showed up.

That should never happen for any class.

You sure do cry a lot, you should try to not join a guild that over recruits next time.

I used my situation to show how the state of the class effects being in a raid force. If you took that as crying then ...

Woe is me :P
