Default Ranged sweet spot question

Ok, maybe I am mis-understanding something here, but I don't get why the so-called "sweet spot" (~5m IIRC) is so desirable.

I mean, as long as I stay in the range of the bow I am using, I can autoattack, use CAs, and Coverage. Wouldn't that make it slightly more effective than someone who cut themselves out of Coverage range and closer to AoEs?

Keep in mind, I have never set foot in VP or CoD. Is this where the sweet spot is most important? If so, how?

I would say the "sweet spot" is most important outside of those zones actually, as most of the mobs in VP have Knockback and/or a nasty AOE, although by then you should be geared for survivability and the new epic means you want to stand within 5m anyways. You should not be depending entirely on your healers to cure you, so short range, good resists, cure potions hotbarred, etc. should make 5m no big deal as long as you're in heal range for group heals.

It's the "Sweet Spot" because every one of your abilities becomes useable to you without having to move from there. Ranged Auto, All of your Ranged Abilities, all of your melee Abilities. Except in the very short pause between CA's/RA's when you are waiting for Auto-ranged to go off, you pretty much have something you can be doing 95% of the time when you're in the sweet spot.

Anywhere else and you lessen your DPS.

That explain it well enough?

The sweet spot is where you can use Melee CA's and ranged attacks. coverage isnt that great, but you can still step back to use that one attack and come back to the sweet spot when your done.

Aaaaah ok thanks

Yeah I was forgetting about the melee CAs and their range limitations. That makes much more sense now.

I am sure many others do this too. I macro all of my Melee Combat Arts to trigger on my ranged AA. So after I roll through my Ranged CAs I start my Melee CAs and don't have to worry about losing the Ranged AAs.

Seems to work pretty well. What do other do that try to use the "sweet spot" so they can use Melee CAs?

I've actually had more justification to not be in my sweetspot in the entirety of RoK.

Most of the mobs have a "if you are closer I fuck your world up" AE that's best to be at range for rather than deal with it. Just joust the melee ca's and you're ok.

i macroed /autoattack 2 to some of my mellee ca's so i can spam them and not worry about my ranged auto.

but i usually just stay in close and if i know i may die to an aoe i just joust out some.
pretty simple

another little ditty is that culling shot (the back shot, forgot the new name cuz im noob) can be cast on the run, so really u can hit the sweet spot and cast that as you joust, and still be able to use coverage. then just go back in.

In PR I joust the AEs, in Thuuga I stay back cause of the stun stifle crap, more effective dps that way. Pawbuster sweet spot.In Kor-sha I hit the sweet spot just can't get away from the stun/stifle crap there so just wait for healers or potions. On VS sweet spot. And next week I can tell you about Chamber of Destiny, already hit up some trash in there and so far it is sweet spot.
