Default Some Questions from a Potentially Returning Player

Hey Guys,

I'm thinking of trying to re-activate my account. I am going to play again regularly when school ends. But, one thing that I need to know before I get back into the commitment of EQ2 is uhhh...

What is the current state of the ranger. I looked through these boards and some of it seems out dated, and some opinions seemed uninformed.

So here are the questions I was hoping to have answered:
  • Do people even want to take rangers on raids?
  • Is itemization still fucked for us? I did see that some pieces are being itemized better, but since I have not been in the raid scene for a long while, I don't really have a good idea of what item trends are.
Thanks,
Kradun

Yes, well-equipped and raid buffed we will be within the top 5 of a zw parse.

No, the introduction of void gear has assured that most people without entire sets of raid gear are all very well equipped. TSO T2 (and now T3) armor is good, albeit not very unique.

That said, poorly geared rangers or rangers without raid buffs parse lower than bards.

If the bard is better equiped... poorly equiped bards dont outparse a ranger

Well, I guess when I get to playing I'll be damn useless for a bit.

All I got is a mythical and some left over gear from the EoF.

Thanks for the speedy update though.

I would'nt call myself the best of the best or anything, but in the last year, I can count the number of zone wides I've lost on one hand. Rangers arn't perfect but we're in pretty good shape. I still want some lvl 80 ammo.

Depends on what you call zonewides, the zones you raid and what the skill and gear of the others is.
Technically a ranger can't win against equal equipped and buffed competing classes (i.e. assassin, wizard just to call 2) all the time or at least mostly.

I'm no longer in a "raiding " guild, so I would expect to top the parse when I do raid with family guilds. However, when I did raid everyday it was with people who did not suck and killed everything we tried. They still do. I wish I still had the time to commit to it.

/agreed

I came back to the game after a long break. First thing I had to do was relearn everything about where my AA pts needed to be.
After that it was just a matter of getting into some shard groups and getting geared up...when I finish that I will let you know whats next
My three favorite toons are ranger mystic and paladin and I can say that the ranger is the most fun, mystic is most versatile and the pally is just my hard headed nature in a virtual form.
