AOE dps required? Can I get a grp? And Coverage Question

I've looked at Safana's post and followed it to the T. I'm constantly declined for grps because they need "AOE" dps. Well we have a mirror and there are zones that would benefit from an alternative spec to the one that Saf has listed that would do more AOE damage. I totally agree and see that for a single mob like the training dummy I do get the best dps with her suggested spec. What i'm wandering is, has anyone thought of or tried an alternative spec that would give us more AOE ability. Personally, if they made stream of arrows in GRP aoe i think that would be awesome. (Anyone know how I go about suggesting that to the developers? Of course I'll probably get flamed for that idea.) Also, I'm having a hard time working coverage into my casting order, I do notice that natural selection we are able to run and activate that while running backwards to get into the area where coverage works. I've seen the casting order thread and it totally confused me. Any help guys?!?!?!

I'm with Dellona on this one.

I've been reading up on threads dealing with AA allocation, casting order, and timing auto-attack with the Profit UI bar or the ding in ACT (I use the bar). But even with all of this information, there are many things which aren't explained in an intuitive, step-by-step fashion. Many of the current guides assume that a person may understand things which they don't -- or at least not fully.

As someone who has been in and out of the game repeatedly due to health and financial concerns, I've had a hard time keeping up with all the latest and greatest information. Still, I want to gear up to at least T2 shard gear and I'm hoping to save enough plat to go beyond that. Being a ranger, getting into raids and even many PUGs is tough to do even with great gear. When your play strategies also aren't batting 1.000 that makes it worse.

Any further help with regards to the best DPS strategies and casting orders would be great. Any flames will simply be ignored. Thanks in advance!

the spec is there

there isnt a mirror spec for anything else but tanking, the dps spec is that one u cant change it to improove the aoe dps, we are NOT and aoe class, but even so i never get declined to go to a group because my single target dps is enough to beat the other aoe classes (i dont see good warlocks or wizzies on groups im sure that i woulnt be able to compete agains one on an aoe fight)

dps is dps, if ur fighting 3 mobs and u have a mage doing 3k on each mob and ur doing 10k on 1 mob ur outparsing the mage or course, doesnt matter if the mobs get down at the same time or if they die 1 at a time what matters is how long u take to kill the group and if the mage is doing more dps then u.

but yes warlocks, wizzies and good swashs will always outparse u on aoe fights if they dont suck.

about coverage, yes i do use natural selection moving sometimes so i can get in place to cast coverage, rear shot works that way aswell.

just keep the red the rest was just an exemple, there are other ways to cast sniper with coverage but those are the best ways to maximize dps, if u use the natural selection u can joust back to the mob using rear shot tho.

I did the same thing. I followed the post and adjusted my AA and my DPS went up and then stalled. I asked again and it was found that my cast order was way out of whack. Again I got guidance on how to improve. The many reason is that I say guidance is that each person has a slightly different play style and you have to find one for yourself.

The main thing after you get a good base is spending hours on the training dummy. I spent 6 hours on the training dummy and my parse went up again. I would check my parse and see what was causing issues and making sure I am not stepping on my AutoAttack, big no-no. I will probably be spending more time on the training dummy again soon to fine tune some more and see what will work better with the additional AA.

As stated previously we are not an AOE class; we don't have many AOE's and the ones we do have is very narrow area so the spread is not much. As for Coverage it is a pain. I only use coverage when I am fighting a boss mob and will be using Sniper Shot, because I will start at the back of the raid so I can have the distance needed. Then I will run up and start my normal DPS. If you stand at a distance and just shoot arrows you can use Coverage but your DPS will not be that high. If you want higher DPS you have to be up on the mob, in the sweet spot.

These posts can guide you but tweaking cast order on training dummies will help as well.

The training dummy and I are good friends, I spend alot of time with that thing. I have to say that today I asked LerfQ and he was really informative as well. What about this intoxication spec. It was mentioned to me that intoxication took a hit with TSO. Well they were right, I pulled up a pre tso parse that I had saved from back in the day, and seriously intoxication isn't working like it use to. So, does that mean I should finish out my str line :-) Thank you guys for the information and answering my coverage question. As for the Aoe, I just got my Shoulder and BP for T2 shard gear and my dps has increased a decent amount. Althought, I hate seeing grps "LF AOE DPS" or being told we need a aoe class sorry ranger's not allowed.....thought maybe there would be an alternative spec because of the few ok maybe one AA ability that gives us a chance to AA aoe *shrugs*.....MAKE STREAM OF ARROWS AOE :-p but hell I'm a noob so *shrugs*

Big thing for a ranger is making a name for yourself on your server. Let your parses speak for you. Sooner or later it will become known that you're not a retard and can throw down. It's a horrible thing to say but if you can't get the gear, you aren't going to parse well, especially mythical, that's huge. Timing is everything. Look for dispatches being used, etc. There are a million little things that can boost your numbers. CA food, RC/RDA pots, temp adorns, etc. Don't be afraid to melee either, so long as you're getting auto attacks in.

And no, we are not AOE dps at all. Storm of Arrows is pro, but as far as point blank we have nothing amazing.

Intoxication is junk. Get STR endline. Reuse will affect Sniper and Storm, so that helps.

At the end of the day, gear is huge. Farm gear, buy it, start raiding, do w/e. And again, no mythical = the poop. Best mythical in the game is the ranger myth. At least they gave us that.
