Default DPS and AA Development for DoV...Can we get an update to the sticky?

    Hello All,

I haven't played EQ since 2004, and I recently jumped right back into EQ2, so I am a newb all over again... I have spent several hours on this site and learned a bit about end-game Ranger AA development (although a lot is still "greek" to me), but I can't seem to find anything for developing a ranger up to lvl 90 (before large groups or raiding), unless I missed it?

The only thing I did find was a DPS guide in a sticky from last year, which suggest putting points into agility, intel, and strength. My understanding is that strength and intel are useless to a Ranger in DoV and Stamina and Agility are the only stats that matter. Is there someone out there that can build a multi-level guide on how to develop a Ranger to level 90?

In other words, what is the best route to invest your AA points as your level? Do you start in Pred or Ranger? I capped my lvl at 42 to work on AA (98 or so right now) and I want to get the maximun DPS at my level. Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

i would say just work on the pred aa lines until you have the str end line and maxed cb,
then all the ca upgrades and the da endline and the poisons line and its endline in ranger line maxing out the snare and the reuse on snaring shot,

after that keep working to your shadows edlines

    Thanks Zig,

Forgive me, as I am not up on all the abreviated terms (only been playing a few weeks). I understand what you said in the first sentance about working the "pred aa lines until you have the str end line and maxed cb", but what are the "ca upgrades" and "da endline"? Can you post an example of say 100 AA used in the beetny AA calculator, as a visual? That would give me a better understanding of what you think is best, if you could?

Any other input from knowledgable players would be great also!

Thanks again for your time and input; it's very much appreciated!

Basically for Soloers, what used to be the Strength and Agility lines are what you are aiming for first. Being as this is just a bit of advice and I cannot access my ranger right now, I might change my advice tomorrow when I have time to play with Beetny after work. First 24 AA go down the Strength line. Second 24 go down the Agility. I believe both lines would go 4, 8, 10, 1 for best effect. Then concentrate on the Ranger tree. You need 14 points in Poisons to get Conservation. Also put 5 in Snaring Shot as that is a life saver. I'll have to take a look at the Shadows Tree to see what point requirements you have to use it and what is best in it for Soloists.

So much has changed in the AA trees it is hard to remember what is what.
I believe you can use 160 AA total before you are level 70.
When I get home from work tomorrow I will play with Beetny and make you an effective Setup that uses 160 AA and is designed to keep a solo quester alive and murdering things. After all, that is what I do best.

CA = combat art, so combat upgrades are stuff on the right side of the second tab that upgrade your storm of arrows and the like. DA is double attack, so what he's saying (and what you should do) is upgrade those CA upgrade AAs to 5 until you can also upgrade your double attack (extra 8%) endline. To be honest, it doesn't matter THAT much how you spec before 90 because you won't be getting groups (sadly) before then anyway, so you might as well spec to help you solo. Unless you're getting PLed.

Avoid the shadow line AAs for quite a while, because you need like 175 AA or something like that to even get the somewhat decent ones unlocked.

Thanks for the definition Terris; it makes much more sense now. You said the "combat upgrades are stuff on the right side of the second tab". I assume you meant the Ranger tab, as that is where I saw storm of arrows?

Loiraine, I would appreciate that much. Keep in mind that I am only lvl 42 and have about 100 AA, so if you can suggest how to spend those AA's along the way to 160AA, that would help a bunch!

    Thanks again, everyone!

Here's what I would do with the first 98 AA points you get.
    http://www.beetny.com/eq2aa/?g01d148...0k@35@25@35@15

For anyone starting a Ranger from scratch, this was the AA progression I used.

First 25 went into Predator Agility to get Poise.
Next 8 points I boosted Snare and Snaring Shot under Ranger.
Next 21 in Ranger Multishot to get Double Arrow.
Drop the next 15 into Shadows to get Offensive Prowess boosted.
Note- [(Also make sure your Offensive Stance is at Master Level)-Easily done at lower levels. Get the Expert made, use Research under your Knowledge and have it upgraded to Master]
I went back to Predator and put 12 in Strength to get Intercepting Blades up to 8. (Great for soloing)
Back to Shadows to drop 5 into Quick Strike.
Finished out the 98 points getting to Perfectionist in Predator Strength line.

Here's a Setup for 160 Points at level 70 and Under.
(Note- I do not do BGs, so this is a Solo PvE setup)
    http://www.beetny.com/eq2aa/?g01e148...1555@2555@1551

    Progression from 98 - 160
1 Point in Spinning Spear for an extra AoE attack. This also finishes the 50 points in the Predator tree.
In the Ranger tree I put 2 more in Snare, then 5 each in Focus Aim, Killing Instinct, and Honed Reflexes in that order. Drop 2 in Survival Instincts so you can put 1 in Extension. Putting 1 more point into Stream of Arrows gives you 50 in the Ranger Tree and completes the 120 Requirement for the next line of Shadows.
All the rest of your 160 are going into Shadows. I would do Hunter's Accuracy, Cut Arteries, and Noxious Enfeeblement First. Then the rest in whatever order you like the best.
Once you hit level 71 You will likely Respec this Tree to put the points to better use in Other Trees.

I basically did the whole trip to level 90 while either Solo or having a Warden heal me, so I will put more links up on what a good Solo AA tree looks like. I'll also do one for a good Group setup. If you have an AA Mirror (Mirror of Reflected Achievements), you can easily swap between the 2 Setups. If you happen to be level 90 and Raid, you probably do not need my advice anyways since I keep asking other people for advice on a Raid setup myself. The Raid setups I have seen are all similar to and still different from each other. The joy of AA is it is all personal Preference !!!

Thanks Loiraine and Chorboy for the info, I will look at making some changes when we are able to log back in...whenever that will be? lol

Any other pre lvl 70/160aa set-up's that people have would be great also for game-play variety!
