Default Re: The Entire SOE EQ2 Staff

While I agree it was a very bad blunder they did and that they could have done the update on a different day if at all possible, at least blame the correct stuff for the downtime.

Ok, so the very limited update notes they presented with the regular and scheduled patch could make people think it was LoN that caused all the trouble, if that is all you saw. But if you were actually online for a bit of those first few hours when all the crazy stuff happened and saw the ingame chat channels, or read some of the forum posts about what happened, do you really think the card game could cause such huge game breaking bugs to stuff not related to the card game at all?

And if you began to wonder why the downtime was so excessive, and started rummaging around on these or the offical forums, wouldn't you try to search for some official word on it? Like what the SOE people gave of information about the issue? Looking in the dev tracker on these forums, or the dev tracker on the official forums, they pretty much said what happened, why it happened, and what they were currently doing during much of the downtime.

Even without spending much time on either forums, looking at
Official News and Announcements
wouldn't be too much to ask for if you are already on the forums and wondering what is happening and see a new announcement.

There's still no present ETA for the fix's completion. The team's working feverishly on getting the troubles ironed out. If I hear anything more, I'll update this post!

And the thread Kirstie posted in at intervals during the whole day: Search

I am glad to hear that. But do me the courtesy of telling me what exactly has gone wrong. I think we all can handle that.

Want to defuse people's anger? Make them feel...no....let them know that they are the most important customer base in the world to you.

Absolutely you all are the most important group to me and what myself and many many others here today are working to get the servers up and running for.

Along with the LoN rumor it appears that there is some discussion that the problem was caused by the PvP item in the update notes or some exploit we nerfed. Those also are not true.

The critter that set off this domino effect was a fix to a server crash we had been seeing intermittently. In general we don't announce those but we do see every zone crash that happens and we try to fix them during the hotfixes.

I hope that answers some questions. I really do wish I had an eta to give you but for the remaining down servers we are still working on them as quickly as possible.

It was an unfortunate series of events. The nature of the change that was made to fix the crash only affected some characters. So although it did go through our normal process of QA'ing internally and going to Test first we didn't realize what we had on our hands or we wouldn't have let it go live (obviously).

Its one of those things that will definitely be gone over with a fine tooth comb to see how we can avoid it from happening in the future.

I just wanted to clear up that our problems today are unrelated to LoN. We have identified the initial problem and have many servers back up and running and are working to get the others up asap.

I do sincerely apologize for the inconvenience of the downtime today and the unexpected server shutdowns we had just recently.

Gnorbin's thread in the Official announcements section of the forums will continue to update everyone as we bring servers back up.

Although LoN is embedded in the game it isn't patched the same way EQ2 specific files are. The SOE Denver office works with both us and the EQ1 team to create their patches and are on their own schedule for when those go live. When they do they update both EQ1 and EQ2 at the same time.

Absolutely no one who could help with the downtime today was taken off of that task to work on the LoN update.

LoL I can say with absolute certainty this wasn't the case today.

Our script is finished running on one server and we're currently checking to see if it resolved the character corruption that made us bring down the servers suddenly the second time.

We did update the test server before the patch to the hotfix this morning went out and brought the test server up.

Unfortunately this problem we are experiencing on the servers right now is specific to character data. That's why we have some servers up (Unrest, Blackburrow, Guk, Najena ect) and others are down even though all our servers are running the same patch.

From the rumors I heard, one of the things they were trying to fix was an issue with characters crashing (raid-)zones when their character's amount of data to save/store got too big. (Sounds like something affecting a very few players.) And on looking back over what people have said, it sure seems like less data were being saved.
After reading all the posts Kirstie made about what happened, if you still think it was LoN or a LoN item on PvP that caused all this trouble and downtime, which in case you didn't notice, didn't affect all the servers once they fixed their initial big blunder, then you are calling Kirstie an outright liar and that she for some reason is trying to deceive us all. You are also calling the person I initially heard the rumor from a liar, but considering I'm not saying what that source was I can accept you doubting us.

However, if you didn't bother to read any of the quotes, even when it got presented to you on a platter, then why should SOE bother to give us updates and information should anything similar ever happen again? Instead of wasting time on informing people with stuff that won't be read or stuff that won't be believed they could just go on and work on fixing what they broke.

And if you're not playing the game at all, then you certainly have no reason to go spouting off wild claims.

Hm - I haven't read the other thread, but we pulled 2 chaperons last night in MMIS and the entire freaking RAID crashed to desktop (all of us on vent: the game just disappeared!). I've never seen anything like that happen before.

If that is related to this, then I guess I was wrong in assuming they got it fixed during the downtime the other day. d'oh.

Reguardless of the cause its still Bullshit. Period. Thursday everything i had was running fine, nothing had even indicated a problem, was expecting some Downtime for GU 38 naturally but that was about it, then i try logging in at 1pm, 4pm, 8pm, and 11pm on friday and its still clusterfucked from what soe tried to put in, Horray for me having wasted a day off from work playing CS:S when i wanted to rape contested.

Bottom line SoE showed Complete and utter disreguard for their customerbase by scheduling whatver the fuck they did on friday, i mean who the fuck in their right minds schedules something before a holiday weekend. What im curious to see is will this fuck with GU 39 having GU 38 delayed... Grats soe on not just dropping the ball, but turning around in the endzone and cocksmacking yourselfs in the face, as usual.
