LOL On one hand, using another character's name for a toon is really unoriginal - particularily if you're styling your toon after that character. Gandalllf Gannndalf Gandolf Gandalff Gandolf Gondalf Dangalf etc. /eyeroll
OTOH, I do kinda have to give an on-the-sly (well not now lol) thumbsup to Terry Pratchett themed names. I don't know why I think this is any different - it really isn't. BUT, I love Pratchett so tend to be more amused when I see a Pratchett name running about. I also shamefully admit to complete & total lameness and naming my first guild Monstrous Regiment -somewhat after the book and going for a couple levels of jokey irony (we were tiny, most of the toons were men playing females rather than say, females playing men*). The only reason I went with MR is because... well... Nac Mac Feegle was taken.
I'm also guilty of cherrypicking a couple names from Folklore for at least 2 of my toons (Megaira - one of the 3 furies and go figure, NOT a fury, & Falada - the beheaded talking horse ala The Goose Girl). Those were more "in honor of" than "oo I think I am!"
If I ever turn into a snake haired batwinged torch carrying decapitated horse that talks, you can feel free to burn me at the stake, but not before stabbing me in the chest with a fencepost, drowning me in holy water and basting me in garlic butter.

One winner from our server, that quickly disappeared:

I think my favorites so far are the ones the random name generator churns up. A guildie had an alt the random generator named Fuwknu or some variation of the spelling that ended up sounding like "fuckin u" - we thought up some creative pronunciations for him before someone reported him and a GM made him change it.
**We had another female guildie at the time - at least we think she was a RL female - who would fling herself all over the boys like a cat in heat. It was ...wow...spectacular to watch. She met my husband and promptly dripped all over him like sweat on a fat man.
It was bad enough it wierded the guys out, and a couple of them switched full time to their female alts, claiming to be their male main's "cousin" or "sister." I still remember one going "she doesn't KNOW does she?" lol Oh honey, you'd KNOW if she knew...
Anyway, hence the guild full of men in tights.
Edit - love the new smilies, LFG but gawd they're huge.
