Default A letter to Caswydian

Caswydian -

I have read countless posts from you about how the raiding community is such a small percentage of EQ2's player base and that our concerns, accomplishments, and overall right to exist and be heard should be ignored, downplayed or outright ridiculed by those that develope this game. I, myself have not progressed past T-1 of RoK's raid content because I already have the best the game has to offer thats not contested loot. If you dont see the significance of this then let me clarify things for you.

Raiding at this point is non rewarding because i can get everything I want from running all the RoK heroic instances in 3-4 hours a night for about 2 weeks and get some upgrades running chardok and sebbelis at my leisure. thats it - a whole years worth of developers time and efforts to make an expansion trivialized down to maidens vaults chelsith coa. you get the gear from there and your uber - diminishing returns has made it that way.

now, picture this, raids are out of the game, no more raiding, you lose perhaps around 10 % of your player base (those that raid hardcore, those that raid semi hardcore, those that raid casually and those that WANT TO RAID) all those servers now lost people to grp with during peak hours, SOe forces server mergers, and now the end game is heroic content, casual solo folks start griping that their work schedule/ real life issues and concerns has caused them to play only 1-2 hours a night, 10 hours a week and all YOUR heroic gear is thiers by right of subscription fee.

We are now 3 years into the future and SOE realeases and expansion of ALLL SOLO CONTENT, not one heroic mob anywhere, no dungeouns, no instances no nothing, just one whole morrowind type expansion or they release some heroic buggy content, where the chest rewards are less desirable than running a 3 part solo quest. this is a very real possibility Cas, RoK is almost exactly what I just described.

Now the "Groupers", those that replaced the raiders as experts on classes and game content, start complaining and voicing thier concerns over the games obvious imbalances but they are extremely outnumbered by casual solo folks. and some one like you is saying shut up groupers, you only represent 1% of 1% of the community and your concerns are trivial and irrelevant.

So in the end eq2 is left as a solo game that folks pay 15 bucks a month for when they can spend 30 bucks to get morrowind and unlimited mods for free to further the game.

I am hoping somewhere inside your thinking process , you see the writing and call it what it is, this game loses its raiding community and the devs continue to make encounters where the rewards are soo clearly imbalanced , coupled with the fact that folks can get the best gear in as little as 2-3 weeks running 5 instances and playing 10-15 hours a week trivializes not only the players but the game itself.

I don't get why top raiders keep saying instance loot is as good as VP loot. They are out of their mind if they think that because instance gear does not hold a candle to any of the VP loot I have seen linked. Instance loot is not even as good as EH loot for the most part. Raiders DO have a right to be angry at SoE for unfun buggy encounters that are openly exploited. They have a right to be angry at poorly balanced classes and broken mechanics. Bashing on instance and quest loot is not making you any friends.

Moved to RaR from General Gameplay. I think it has good points, but it's addressed to a specific individual.

wow - never thought id be considered retarded , Caswydian does come here and argue vehemently against the raid community, thought that a well written , non aggressive post with the facts as I see them would perhaps offer him better insight to the raiders dillema. shrug - ah well such is life. truth is broken raid content, buggy raid instances and poor loot rewards is a huge problem, and if the current trend of things in game progresses the way a lot of us see , raid content will be gone, then its a matter of time before the heroic stuff is dumbed down even further and solo rewards will own everything. If i wanted to play a solo rpg game - ill just use my toolset from morrowind or oblivion and make mods. I care about this game, I want to see it reach its potential in all aspects, not watch as it slowly dies.
