That doesn't make it any more "ok", it just demonstrates that the problem is even bigger.
That said, at least paid employees actually get PAID, and are held to a far greater degree of transparancy.

All of the devs, the paid mods, etc, also have the right to own a personal account and use it as a personal account. They are players too, do you think that they stop playing the game simply because it's also their job? Are they allowed to play under anon chars even thought they may have more insight than you do? And Faarwolf had a private life. She had private SOE accounts and was a player as well as a mod.

Except this shouldn't be happening as it creates a MUCH bigger conflict of interest than this website does.

I really agree with this. None of us are posting with our real life identies.
There are a large number of people on the EQ2 forums who post "anon", or without making their in-game character name and guild affiliation known. I believe many of you even do that yourselves, don't you? So are you then claiming to NOT be anon here, simply because you are a well known "anon" poster on the EQ2 forums?
I felt it to be of paramount importance here to allow anyone to post, but only allow people to post as one person. I've done everything possible to try and make it no one can use more than one account here. I still find people that slip by daily and try to register multiple accounts using different hotmail, yahoo, and other email addresses. It's not very hard for a determined person.
The reason I do that is to prevent the annoyance that occurs when someone tries to maintain a public image as an upstanding community member on one hand, and a disruptive anon troll poster on the other. I believe that happens frequentlly on the EQ2 forums, and I will continue to do my best to minimize that here.

I'm sure guidelines are set as to how their powers are used. It would be a huge conflict of interest for someone on a personal account, get into a debate, then order it closed after getting in the last word just because they can. When wearing a civilian hat..you're a player..when wearing a dev or mod hat, you're a dev or mod. How hard is that to understand and follow?

When I'm treating my female patient I'm a doctor. When i'm sleeping with her, I'm a civilian.
Doesn't QUITE work, does it?
Nobody is saying that mods/devs/whatever can't PLAY. Nor for that matter are we saying that there are not guidlines in place for these volunteer mod squad.
What I say is one thing simply. I can go and look up the ethical guidlines for lawyers, for doctors, for accountants, for corporate directors, I can see them clear as day, it's called transparency.
There is NONE of that here. We are simply told "trust us". Well no, screw that. I'm paying you? I want a whole lot more than "trust me".

No you shouldn't. Just like if you're an employee for a company, you can't participate in any competitions they run, nor can their family. It's a conflict of interest. It's just general business sense, if you work for a company, you cannot be considered a "civilian" ever.

This is my point. No other profession allows for this degree of conflict of interest. Simply none. Ethical guidelines exist for a reason, and the spirit of those guidelines is flagrantly violated here. I won't even go so far as to say I don't trust the volunteer mods, I'll keep my personal opinions out of it.
I'm saying that the posibility EXISTS, and that's enough for me.

While I quoted you this post is directed to Arti as well.
That is really a matter of semantics is it not? I mean if it really makes one feel better to bash someone to pieces where they aren't even aware of it and it gives you jollies then hey man go for it. That is how I interpretted Coyote's post. Funny how people can interpret different meanings from the same lines of text.
What is the fun in telling someone they are dumb, a retard, or fat when they don't even know you're doing it? I mean "to me" it's more fulfilling to get in someone's face (whether it really is them or not if that username douchebag and I have a beef with douchebag then douchebag reecives my ire) and say hey you're a fucking dumbass! No, we don't really know who anyone is that's absolutely correct but jesus fucking christ stop trying to split hairs LOL. You say tomato I say tomatoe. Who the fuck cares?!?!
The other point was, this forum is a clique too. It's hard to admit yes but it is!
I think it's great that you're enforcing it so that people can't register multiple accounts. And for the record I think anon posters are pussies Don't post at all if you can't stand toe to toe and take the blows. So for those of you who have identified yourselves I applaud you

O.o This baffles me. So you actually expect the devs not participate in the forums and play the game as a reg person because they are a dev? You do realize, that the fact that the devs DO play on their own time as a civilian HELPS the game, yes? They are actually noting things in their off time that they normally wouldn't have to.
Arthais..No, it doesn't work with the same exact person, though it's not as if it doesn't happen. ;) But in general..when a Gyn treats female patients, they are just patients..when he's at home with his woman, he's enjoying his woman as a woman. That doctor needs to understand where the line is drawn professionally, and if he cannot (reminds me of an article about an OB/GYN that fondled his patients) their superiors (board of health?) deal with it for them. I think that if a mod is working professionally, then complaints should be issued to their superiors, as with ANY service.
