Well, if I have more than one account, you wouldn't really know where to look, would ya?
And I am here because I chose to be. I need no other reason than that.

To you, ok. That's fine, that's your right to make the choice best for you.
It is, however, material to me. Which is why I am against it.
In fact the whole thing can be cleared up and STILL spare anonymity. How?
Same as everythign else, put the rules out there, in public, and state:
1) no volunteer mod shall interact in, moderate on, or take any action against, any post in which he or she has participated in on his or her play account, or was mentioned or refered to by his or her play account
2) no volunteer mod shall interact in, moderate on, or take action against any post made on the adventure or tradeskill class boards of any class that the moderator has a character of
3) no volunteer mod shall interact in, moderate on, or take action against any post made on the server board of any server that the moderator has a character on.
Done. Write em out, make em public, and enforce em.
Conflict of interest resolved.

Ethical guidelines have nothing, NOTHING to do with training or salary.
Not one god damned thing.
If you think differently, you are, quite frankly, wrong.
Ethical guidelines exist for one purpose, and one purpose only, to prevent conflict of interests. It doesn't care if you're a volunteer, a doctor, or you flip burgers for 5 bucks an hour.
They exist to prevent conflicts of interest from interfering with business. That is what they are FOR.
To say a guild leader is not bound by them is simply a technicallity is your greatest showing of ignorance. Guild leaders HAVE no ethical guidelines regarding conflicts of interest for the simple reason that what they do is irrelevant to it.
Yes it has to be a company and not your little club. That's what it's for. Your example makes about as much intellectual sense as saying that that the reason a horse is not a fish because a horse doesn't live in water is "just a technicality"
Conflict of interest ethics are not involved in private organizations. That is not the purpose for which they exist. If you wan't to call that nitpicking a technicality go ahead.
Still doesn't mean you have a clue as to what you're talking about, however.

Well thank you Dumbo for the compliments
I get your meaning now b/c you are going to be a lawyer you know more than me? Not knowing anything at all about my background, education, or training? haha. That's right, you like to play your "I'm a law school student and therefore I know this" card.
I'm not saying I'm right or wrong, I am however saying you have big ears are fat (I'd like to deny those peewee) and are wrong in comparing a moderator with a doctor. I don't need to use my "supposed" leet law skills or any trump card to prove I'm wrong. I'm simply saying you're wrong.

Wow so you have TWO accounts you don't use? Sounds wasteful. You should cancel them.

Without knowing a thing about your background, education, or training, I am free to state, correctly that you are wrong if you believe fish live out of water.
Likewise without knowing a thing about your background, education, or training, I am free to state, correctly, that you are wrong if you believe that ethical guidelines and legalities have a thing to do with training or experience.
They teach you these sort of things in lawschool. But do go ahead and prove me wrong, do tell what experience you have dealing with the legalities of conflict of interest.
Would love to hear this.

While I appreciate your concern for my financial wellbeing, I stopped caring about what others thought of my spending habits around 13 years ago.
That was, not coincidentally, the time I stopped having an allowance.

I don't care if it's public, meself. Those rules should be out there.
And in fact they, or similar ones, actually were out there. A little birdie told me at one point that only Echgar (the only mod who has never been a regular in ngd as a player) was allowed to mod that particular forum. Don't quite know why that particular rule fell to shit; again, I have a problem with the enforcement of the rules and the actual implementation of the system, not it's concept.

Re: Out a moderator!
Oh but Arti you see I have the power of GOOGLE and can prove that there are indeed some fish that can live out of water. Try it, it's liberating.
You're absolutely correct you're totally allowed to state your opinion of me. Just as I can of you but you still have not proven your statements in comparing a moderator to a doctor is allowable. Maybe this would be a good example for you to use in one of your classes ;) But you're sure doing a pisspoor job in my opinion. I will still state that a moderator of SoE's forums is not comparable to a board certified medical doctor.
Now go liberate yourself and check on the fish thing for me ;)

If those rules were there, in force, and kept in place, then I have no problem. As I said, I prefer a bit of transparency with my morning coffee, but I can live without it as long as I see, through practice, if not necessarily directly, that they're there.
I just haven't seen it that way, and I think the reason this thread has gone so long is that a LOT of people haven't seen it that way.
I'd prefer it be out in the open, but again, as long as what SHOULD be there APPEARS to be there, I'm happy. It just hasn't appeared to be there.
Well god damn dar, do we agree on something?
