I sorta agree with Arthais here that there is a conflict of interest when you mod the selfsame forums you post in. I just think it opens a huge can of worms. Even IF a mod can perfectly separate their mod hat and plain old player hat, many others cannot. And as I said somewhere elese recently, perceived favoritism or bias is nearly as bad as actual bias. Maybe worse.

And that's why:

A) Only Echgar or Raijinn would mod the NGD.
B) Why I never modded my own server board.

And let's not talk about server board stuff.

And, once that "policy" came in place, it came after exactly how many complaints?

A very brief view of the Mod tracker finds at least one blue name modding a thread in NGD within the first 4 pages of mod posts. And it wasn't Echgar. If I dug further back, I bet I could find more.

Even if YOU can self moderate, others likely cannot.

See, but this is the fundamental problem with policing oneself. The temptation can be too great to tread where one should not tread. It's actually irrelevant whether or not the modding was appropriate or not. The possibility exists for impropriety, and that should be enough reason for it (the possibility) to not be ignored.
