Gypsies are actually a race (the Romany as I recall), as well as a being a word describing a nomadic lifestyle.

However, IMO "Gyp" meaning to cheat someone out of something is not racist, as the word has passed into the general lexicon and pretty much lost it's racial overtones. On this site, since we allow the casual use of "gay" and "*****" in non-hating conversation, we would also allow gyp, and jewed.

"Gyp" meaning cheat, btw, has an earliest known reference of 1889, while "Gay" meaning homosexual dates to 1933, probably.

I'm totally /boggled that Kendricke would even try to imply that somehow the word "gypped" is offensive. Realizing, of course, that the offensiveness of slurs is subjective, but really?

Ken and I get along okay, but sometimes he's really got a major stick up his ass.

Perhaps if I had used it in a diffrent context I could see that but I wasn't directing it toward anyone. Its common knowledge that Gypsies were swindlers and thieves and the reason the term got coined in the first place if the information is correct. I was just trying to show emphasis on WHY it was termed that way. Gypsies were lieing stealing cheats. And being a gypsy isn't a race. Alot of gypsies MIGHT have had their roots in the Roma but gypsy was a term created by people to describe these nomadic wandering people who did weird shows and danced the sensual rythems of the belly dance. If thats all it takes to be a race then hell any person with enough followers can create a "race". No I would have to disagree about it being a hate statement because unless I am mistaken gypsies in the old form no longer exist anymore due to the modernization of the world.

An Ethnic group is different than a race. Also according to Wiki:

I honestly dont see why you people keep trying to stir up shit with him. If he really bothers you that much then dont reply to anything he post, he is playing all of you and winning.
Fastest way to deflate his pigheaded eggo is to stop saying anything that would give him the chance to argue in the first place. If he replies to one of your post, move on and dont reply back, see how long he last without someone to argue with.
