I wonder how that is substantially different than "the mods will work out, trust me".

*shrug*

Vivendi Entertainment pulled in 641 million Euros in businesss last year. It's hard to argue ethics with businessmen who are too busy counting money.

You know after reading all this, poking at some of you, and truly thinking about this there is one theme that keeps occurring to me rather strongly. It's true Art that this forum probably came into existence b/c of those reasons and it's true that it has spawned tremendous debate. But, it is rather awspiring to see how many people really care too. It's obvious that there are some very passionate people about this game and I do hope that if SoE is watching *wave* that they take this into consideration; yeah it's true you're a huge publicly traded corporation and don't really need anyone but games like EVE aren't as wildly popular b/c they don't listen to their players no if anything it's far from it. A loyal fanbase can really help a game shine. While I do think some motives are counterproductive others can only help bolster one's argument.

I just had to share how suprised I am b/c even I'm being serious and mushy and that's not an every day occurrance. If you guys really want to make a change or make a difference there are ways to go about it constructively. I don't think that by constantly trying to stick it to the man OR by completely dogging a group of people out (NGD/mods/devs) will help you to succeed. If anything, I hope that more than a few of you realize that now. And if you do then this site has more worth than a place for me to be an ass :p It's ok to be bitter and angry but that's not the best way to invoke change if anything it typically causes something more negative to happen. And no, I don't know how to change SoE I'm not saying I do. Use your weapon wisely.

I doubt huge amounts of posters are going to quit the game based on the idea of vol mods. Quite honestly, the vast majority don't seem to care about the mods at all, including the red named ones. There are some of the most prolific posters that obviously DO care, but for the everyday Joe visiting the forums, it doesn't really matter all that much. You aren't going to be dealing with the mods much unless you are out breaking rules anyway.

Perhaps not a lot that you know personally.

To me, 50% of my enjoyment of these games is based on forum participation. When it's no longer possible for me to use a forum, or no longer enjoyable, I don't want to play the game anymore.

And I know others who feel the same way. I don't know our number, but I do know that we exist.

I can understand that. I've been very involved in the forums for over 3 years now, it's part of my experience. And I get less joy out of the forums due to many of the changes that were made.

But is this directly because of the addition of mods? Do people who lock and move posts and theads really have that much sway over your posting experience?

Yes, my opinion is that the SoE forums became too heavily moderated at the beginning of 2006. Many of the mods seemed to mod in a capricious and arbitrary fashion, and seemed to be allowed to do that unchecked. I then felt stifled and suffocated, and was no longer interested in posting there. I can say for sure that this site would have never happened BUT FOR the introduction of the blue mods and stricter rules implemented at the beginning of 2006. It was completely unnecessary in total, and had the combined effect of ruining all the fun for me.

Call me a whiner and cryer if you wish, I'm just honestly stating my perceptions and opinions.

It's my opinion that the stricter moderation is due to Raijinn and his vision of the site, not the addition of the blue mods. It seems to me that the blue mods are simply backing up the ideals of the red mods, not making up their own rules.

I'd find it very hard to think, knowing how firm Raijinn is in his way of doing things, that he'd allowed anyone under him to run around unchecked.

After all, Raijinn gave me a very firm warning regarding my own posting style. Things that were acceptable previous to his taking the position of forum moderator, were no longer as such. It had zero to do with the other mods, it was him taking out the trash and tightening the boot straps.
