Re: Kaalia (70 Wizard) - Everfrost
hehe s'funny
My bruiser is KoS fabled near 8k HP, 3.9k mit (self buffed with Vigorous), 71% avoidance, avg resists at 3.8k or more self buffed and can trio unrest wth an inquisitor and assassin. Why look for a whole group if you're saying you don't need that extra 36% avoidance and 2k hp?
I like the concept but in reality it's pretty idiotic.
Tanking = Hate Management - No
Tanking = Meatshield - Yes
The idea of tanking is simpler than anyone realises, a tank is there to take hits, it's that simple. Lofty ideals of hate management, mob positioning whatever are derivatives of tanking. It's all the same thing, if they aren't hitting you and faced towards you, then you are sucking.
Battlemage = A fun idea? - Yes
Battlemage = A tank replacement? - Don't make me laugh

Re: Kaalia (70 Wizard) - Everfrost
while i agree any wizard who thinks they can tank better than a fighter is clearly stupid isnt good hate management an integral part of making sure the mobs are hitting you lol ?
to cut it short i think hate management is a very important part of tanking ...

If that fucking asshole wants to tank, I'm going to heal him like I do all my tanks (as if the wiztank were wearing plate) and let's see how far he or she gets.
Wizards don't tank, period. And if they are, then they need a fucking nerf STAT.

Re: Kaalia (70 Wizard) - Everfrost
Just went into Unrest yesterday with this scary ass set-up...I think we all had a death wish:
Sk, Monk, Defiler, 2 raid-geared Wizzies and a 68 Necro.
Kronusrt and I threw on every piece of deagro gear we had. With the exception of some buggy mobs popping through the wall, we were fine. Been playing a wizard since 2005 and sadly it took me awhile to learn that you must adapt and you cannot just button mash, unless you are spamming your deagro keys. Sure it's optimal if you have a tank that never looses agro, but to say you need two tanks just to keep the heat off you in Unrest because either:
a. you don't know your casting order and/or cannot adapt it to keep your kill shots towards the end
b. you are too lazy to spam your deagro keys
c. you just don't give a shit and like to mana burn on pull (embarressed to admit that the first day I had manaburn, I did just that...felt like a complete fool and never did it again)
is just sad.
I recommend this wizard also make an alt tank and see what it's like to have to keep agro off of healers, back stabbers and heavy nukers. She/he might have a new perspective. After playing a twinked zerker who is only 35 (and even has all taunts mastered-and I loose agro to crazy wizards) I know I do. I have mad respect for a good tank.

Re: Kaalia (70 Wizard) - Everfrost
Funny thing he said today in 60-69: Kaalia: 70 Tank LFG for instances, pst.
He thinks that because he can perform some of the basic tasks of a tank, he is passively a tank class and is now advertising himself as one...
Just because you can do some of the things that tanks can do (much worse than any decent tank might I add), doesn't mean you're inherently a tank...

Re: Kaalia (70 Wizard) - Everfrost
I've noticed it's pretty easy to tank on my Warlock. Holding aggro really isn't a problem either.
That being said, unless your just goofing off .. your an idiot if you really think a cloth caster is a good replacement for a proper tank.
Christ, do your job. DPS. Leave the tanking to the tanks.

Re: Kaalia (70 Wizard) - Everfrost
And don't justify the tanking by saying that any plate tank you've come across can't hold aggro well enough. That either means that 1) the plate tanks you've come across are decked out in treasured with App IV taunts or 2) you don't understand that DPS doesn't just mean blow shit up...it means knowing when to chill the fuck out, too.

Re: Kaalia (70 Wizard) - Everfrost
I think Kaalia grouped with some great healers and a bad tank, which can give any DPS class a hardon.
Ward mechanics gives squishies a false idea on how uber they are, so they keep pushing the limit. Eventually they'll try grab aggro on pull and tank an encounter from start. If successful, bragging occurs and theyll do it again.
I blame good healers just as much as bad tanks. In PU groups if a squishy starts acting stupid they're leaving the instance with 0% armor or they're gonna stop trying to play tank.
Let em die and they'll manage their hate again.

Re: Kaalia (70 Wizard) - Everfrost
If I have a class in grp that just cant control their own aggro...or just think its funny to rip aggro, I just stop taunting, and let them "tank". Or if I am playing my Defiler, stop warding. Most folks get the picture pretty quick.
