I'm not sure if those are federal or state laws. I thought I remembered the difference being that the benefits were a lot less if you quit. But I really can't remember, I've only put in for unemployment once and never collected a penny.

it really depends on how the employer writes up the termination paperwork. if you quit you have a penalty peroid, i think 6 weeks before you can get it. if your fired it depends on the reason you got fired and you can appeal

In Illinois, quitting without justification, i.e. hostile work environment which is proven through complaints, you can't draw unemployment. I have never not ONCE ever heard of a company outside of the movies ever say that they wouldn't let you quit, you're FIRED!

Well, out of curiosity, did that job even qualify for unemployment benefits? Didn't he say something about a 100 a week? Barely sounded like a real job.


Edit: Found it, he said 3 digit monthly paycheck. So somewhere between 100 and 1000 a month (assuming he's not inflating his ego by counting the pennies as digits). Question remains though, was it a real job eligible for unemployment benefits?

This is true, but it is nice to have that shitty job you can go back to, for one of those days that people really piss you off, you can just say "Fuck you, fuck you, Fuck you, you're cool, annnnnd fuck you. I have always had another job lined up when quiting a job, but if I ever had too, there is a place I could work anytime just in case.

You can get unemployment normally if your simply laid off. If you get fired, you can get unemployment, but there would have to be some sort of conflict(discrimination ect) for you to recieve anything.
