This would not have happened before they destroyed crafting with the changes at the beginning of DoF. That killed the crafting community, and we are now left with people dumping shit on the market for just above cost as they macro through the levels. Someone trying to make a market in a craft cannot compete with EverCraft.

I told Calthine I would stick to complaining about raid loot from now on, so I'm out of here.
What was it post DoF that got you? I don't have a weaponsmith but (as a mage granted) I remember cobalt weapons everywhere.

A few guildies match prices with mine when selling similar items, so I respect that and do not undercut them. The rest of the server gets the undercutting luvins.

I don't have any 70 crafters, but I am the same way. I have a 40 provisioner and not that I was making hand over fist, but I was making enough to buy the masters that I wanted. I can't even make enough to buy a rare for Adept III these days. I spend more for raws than I do making anything.

So, I've resorted to Shiny selling and harvesting to make money.

When DoF came out, I was first weaponsmith to 60 world wide. That took 9 days of hardcore straight grinding as I recall, and there were others racing me.

When DoF came out, Cobalt weapons were as good as or better than almost all other weapons available, because nobody was capable of killing the T6 raid mobs yet. Because weaponsmithing in T5 sucked so badly in terms of the quality of weapons that could be made and the difficulty of leveling, I was one of only two level 50 weaponsmiths on the server when DoF was released.

So yes, I made a windfall on Cobalt weapons at the beginning of DoF. I made over 200 plat in the first month after DoF was released, which was an enormous sum then and which put me in top 3 richest on the server.

But then, crafting and exp was gimped to the point that leveling became about 5 times easier than before. This resulted in the number of active weaponsmiths on my server at the level cap going from just 2 players to over 100 in less than two months. That forever destroyed the market, because as anyone who actually plays EQ2 can tell you, no single server could possibly support more than 4 weaponsmiths MAX.

It took me over two months of straight grinding, 10 to 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, to get level 50 as a weaponsmith, and I was #4 WW. As I said above, I was #1 to 60, and that toon nine days. What the exp and other changes did was convert crafting from a PROFESSION in this game to something more appropriately the subject of a Barney the Dinosaur video. As I've demonstrated twice since then, I can now level ANY crafting class in game to 70 in one week or less. IMO, thats sad, that's pathetic, that's a joke, that's fucked up. Ok, I ran out of superlatives and promised Calthine I'd exit this subject forever, so I'm gone from crafting now and leave it to others.

When I am buying stuff and I see someone undercut by less than a gold, I buy it form the person who had the higher price. WTF do I need to save 1 silver 20 copper for anyway?

(Not sure if I set up a sig line so I am Madigan from Blackburrow)

Having been forced to level up my tradeskilling for the HQ's, I must say that I make zero money doing it. Some people are selling crafted stuff for pennies over merchant value, so I just merchant it all. There are a few things that still "move" but I'm not in it for the money. I just want to get high enough to finish the BCG and then I'll stop. But it is infuriating!

I do tha same. I always buy from the person with the higher price when I can tell that the undercutting fucker is doing just that and I have even sent them tells / mail when I do if I can tell they arent a plat farming cocksucker. I also really enjoy seeing the person that undercuts my 10pp master spell by 1cp. This just makes me drop my price by a plat or 2.

Master spells / rares I kinda put in the vendor box, set a price (voodoo economics baby!!) and walk away. Provisioner stuff I have stopped making as the time does not justify the reward (Oh thank you for trivialising the crafting process such that supply is far greater than demand). Carpenter stuff I put up for a couple of weeks at double what it costs me to make - if it doesnt sell I give it away to guildies.

If I need to make lots of money I go out looking for rares and farming named stuff for a couple of days. I price towards the cheap end of the market but I dont undercut because Ive seen what it did to the provisioner economy...

Winning takes money, getting the masters you need WHEN you want them is expensive. I am not remotely patient nor do I have to be; I'm not going to leave a master on the broker for two months just so some knucklehead roleplayer can feel proud of his high "respectable" prices. The market for that master might be one (1) player and I want to be sure that player buys mine and not yours, and for as much money as possible. Guildies are a different story but that has no bearing here.

When your game improves, you too will come to this realization. I wasn't always this way. But now I undercut you and I do it boldly and without shame. And I don't even need a bot program or RL money to do it.
