When DoF came out, I was first weaponsmith to 60 world wide. That took 9 days of hardcore straight grinding as I recall, and there were others racing me.
When DoF came out, Cobalt weapons were as good as or better than almost all other weapons available, because nobody was capable of killing the T6 raid mobs yet. Because weaponsmithing in T5 sucked so badly in terms of the quality of weapons that could be made and the difficulty of leveling, I was one of only two level 50 weaponsmiths on the server when DoF was released.
So yes, I made a windfall on Cobalt weapons at the beginning of DoF. I made over 200 plat in the first month after DoF was released, which was an enormous sum then and which put me in top 3 richest on the server.
But then, crafting and exp was gimped to the point that leveling became about 5 times easier than before. This resulted in the number of active weaponsmiths on my server at the level cap going from just 2 players to over 100 in less than two months. That forever destroyed the market, because as anyone who actually plays EQ2 can tell you, no single server could possibly support more than 4 weaponsmiths MAX.
It took me over two months of straight grinding, 10 to 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, to get level 50 as a weaponsmith, and I was #4 WW. As I said above, I was #1 to 60, and that toon nine days. What the exp and other changes did was convert crafting from a PROFESSION in this game to something more appropriately the subject of a Barney the Dinosaur video. As I've demonstrated twice since then, I can now level ANY crafting class in game to 70 in one week or less. IMO, thats sad, that's pathetic, that's a joke, that's fucked up. Ok, I ran out of superlatives and promised Calthine I'd exit this subject forever, so I'm gone from crafting now and leave it to others.
