    I keep hearing how assassin sucks and from trying it myself I thought it was pretty underwhelming. Looking at the tree again, I think it's a class that needs to be maxed out to shine.

    The 51 point ability serpent strike is on a 10 sec cooldown and only requires a crit to use. It's an attack that doesn't activate the global cooldown too.

    I think assassins will be good at 50 for people who max out the tree. I'm not in alpha so didn't try it out, but I'm definitely going to try it once I hit 50.

    It awards a combo point so will be boosted with nightblade, plus since it activates without the gcd it will help build combo points.

    A susbstantial portion of Assassin DPS comes from using their Stealth attacks. However, once an Assassin enters combat, they can't re-enter Stealth except by their "Slip Away" ability, which is on a 2 minute cooldown. =|

    Well that's the traditional MMO assassin style, but I haven't seen that in Rift. The out of stealth attacks hit for the same amount as a finisher, and really it's more sustained dps.

    Maybe they have something different planned...

    I usually don't play assassins, but something about everyone saying they're horrible really draws me to the class. I guess it's a touch of masochism.

    assassins need more burst to make up for movement in raid/boss fights. that or just keep nerfing range builds and barely beef up assassin.

    No lol. Ass dps comes from poisons, SB, and backstab + finishers.

    If you put 51 points in Assassin, you're putting points in "Cloak and Dagger" and those other useless bonuses that buff your attacks that break stealth. It's a load of wasted points.

    Well, now that NDA's lifted assassin is supposed to have the highest dps out of rogues. All the crying on the forums are forum warriors with no experience.

    This is coming from guildies who've parsed it out at 50.

    I can only see the extra dps being from serpent's strike. Otherwise, there aren't a lot of new abilities that would add dps post 30.

    Are you talking straight Assassin (51 points), main Assassin (~30 points), or just having Assassin specced somewhere in there?

    I'm not 50 yet, so I don't know, but it just doesn't seem like maxing out to 51 points is a good idea as getting Serpent Strike with a 10 sec CD doesn't seem better than getting some additional talents that increase damage across the board. I guess we'll see with some parses as a lot of people have hit 50 by now and will start raiding.
