Icon7 Devious Evasion, takes away MY avoidance?

I've been using Devious Evasion on either the squishy or the healer of the group, it seemed like a win-win, give him avoidance and get some extra parry out of it.

But someone mentioned the other day that it should only be used if I'm not MT because it takes avoidance away from myself. I didn't know this as there is no mention of it in the spell description. I don't notice any difference really if I have it up or down, but I haven't parsed my avoidance yet.

Can someone elaborate if this is true, how it works, and the best situations to have this buff up or down?

When you are MT on a raid, generally there is another tank. If you put devious evasion on someone, the other tank cannot put their avoidance buff on you. This will lower your avoidance overall because the extra avoids from another tank is better than the small amount of parry you gain from using devious evasion on someone.

So, situations to use devious evasion = no other tanks present, no other tanks in range for avoid to work (20m iirc), when you are OT (put devious evasion on the MT).

Situations to avoid using devious evasion = when you are MT and another tank is putting avoid on you.

Yup as stated already, it in no way lowers your avoidance in a grp situation. Only reason not to put it on someone is as he stated you are tanking a raid, you should have another tanks avoid on you.

Another situation you put avoidance on someone else as an MT is situations where either you or offtank is likely to get charmed as it resets avoidance.

Back in the beginning of TSO it would crash entire raidinstances to have offtanks avoidance on you, having offtank get charmed, meaning offtank effectively did an avoidance check against himself, and crashed everything.

They fixed this by clearing charmed avoidance as far as I'm aware.

OK thanks guys. So the SK's that were telling me not to use this were completely wrong as this was not a raid situation, but rather just TSO shard groups. I figured I would get the parry and give someone a better avoidance check.

Just want to make sure they were wrong and that the spell does NOT affect my personal avoidance in any way.

Yeah, in a grouping situation where you're the only tank, they're dead wrong.

It's probably chinese whispers, someone heard that putting DE on another lowered your avoidance for the right reasons but not knowing why then simply repeated it for a different circumstance thereby getting it wrong. That's why you should always understand the reasoning rather than the outcome.
