Default How are SKs doing?

i never get to play mine and i can't imagine us recruiting one unless we find one that can parse 2k zone wide.

so what sort of DPS both on a single fight when it all goes well and zone wide can a well geared well played SK get in a half decent group?

last time i played mine was for a quick run through antechamber of fate as we were short on fighters incase of warrior adds. was getting about 1500 DPS on adds clearing to CD and got a touch under 1k DPS on the named despite staying at range usin a crappy bow. My SK has few adorns and little EoF gear of any sort. got me wondering, and also made me miss playing him =/ dont have a reason to play him other than raids though, he has all quests done other than SoD line and he's had 100 AAs since early december 2006... we're rarely ever short of tanks on raids and can do most instance stuff with 1-2 tanks, so can't imagine we'll ever be that short...

anyway, would love to know how the class plays these days, i know some of you are killing avatars and getting some of the "good stuff". fill me in!

All depends on the group but 1200-1300 zone wide is not unheard of. 2k+ on fights is possible if in the second tank group. I saw Darkaren get 2600 on first named in IS last night if that counts, but he was in a super group.

2k zone wide is something a true DPS class can do if they are in a good group, but honestly that is expecting 2 much of DPS tank. If I could get 2k zone wide I would be beyond estatic. I have gotten 1800 or so in LoA in a good group, but that is such a easy zone that is just built for SK DPS.

Maybe some things will change with the AGI line and the STA line. Group fights with that crazy 2 hander out of the new zone might also be intersting. Will just have to wait and see.

I really can't imagine what Dark does to get that kind of DPS out of an SK. I've been trying everything for the past few weeks, and in a group with a wizard and troub I've been able to get 1400-1500 single target, 1600-1700 on orange cons if I was lucky enough to get Agitate. My DPS gear is fairly similar to his, and I've been using the same AA spec, but I guess I'm just missing something.

I probably won't be raiding on my SK for a while anyway since I was rejected from Disso, apparently due to my attendance, and he's stuck on Nek. I'll just have to wait until I can scrounge together 50 bucks to move him again.

I'll say it again.

If a raid wants a DPS, we aren't it. There are other classes that can do it better, and if they are really looking for DPS, they'll take one of those classes.

If a raid wants reduced timers for a group, group procs, group lifetap procs (free heals), the ability to knock down an overaggroer... that's us. We're great soloers, and in a raid we provide our own flavor of group benefits.

We can do some damage... some of you out there might be able to post some big numbers, and then a swash could come in and make you cry.

Most raid strategy is "hit it as hard as you can until it dies" so all kinds of guilds are going to set artificial goals that pretty much keep a shadowknight out. There are other strategies and ways of doing things, but most guilds are just worried about whether they can consistently hit 25k.

generally agree with drychnath, but for the most part i dont think its setting artificial goals that keep SKs out, its that few raids ever need more than 1-2 tanks... ofc a well played SK would be great as 1 of those tanks, or as a 3rd. but in all seriousness how many SKs are really well played rather than just thinking they are?

I changed main to my illu because we didnt have an illu (and my illu was my main during t6, so wasn't totally an alt) and i respected th other tanks in my guild and felt I could rely on them to do whatever needed doing. i somewhat regret my desision every day, i still miss playing my SK. but my DPS has gone up a lot, and i feel as an illusionist i offer a lot more.

main issue imo, is encounter design more than class balance.

I agree with some of the previous posters info. Technically we can in the right situation do ok dps, but like they said, get a dps class in the same situation and they blow us away. Last night in FTH i was lucky enough to get a spot in the troub group, so for me, that is the ideal spot for sk dps. I was able to hit 2k on a couple mobs when Touch was up but on the average fight, I was 6-7th on the parse. Typically we have to cover for others in the raid (ie. fding, rescue tanking, etc.) so that kind of thing pulls away at times from us going all out. Some fights are ranged as well which keep the dps down, so overall, the night's parse droped to like 1k-1.2k.

Anyway, this discussion has gone around in circles on every board out there and until sk's get a "necessary" spot on a raid, high end raiding will always be looking for 1-2 tanks, healers, and real dps classes and us "extra tank sk's" get lucky with a guild that recognizes what we really bring to a raid.

sorry for bring up an old thread, just wondering how much dps everyone can put out in a decent group setup, i can put out a decent amount of dps, with sub-par gear, mostly still fabled kos, since all the other tanks in guild have more dkp than me and they get it first. AA setups, sta/int atm, help?
