What can you do? Come back with a firearm and even the playing field. Is it legal? Yes. They can de-scope your job, re-scope it with another title and lower pay, and then offer the 'new' position to you or show you the door. They just did it on the contract I am on.

It sounds to me like they just took your shift differential pay.

Why wouldn't they? Businesses do it all of the time. Lowering your salary is no different than cutting your hours.

Backstory: I live in Arizona. Back in February my deparment closing and I was told I had to either transfer to another department or I basically quit. I signed what was a transfer/offer letter which indicated I was moving to another department. That document did not indicate any decrease in pay.

I was not initially transfered back in February, instead I had to stay on until they canned it back in late March. At that time I was again told either transfer to another department or you quit. I did not sign any new transfer/offer document but had my pay decreased.

When I went to HR to ask what was the deal the lady made up some bullshit about base pay in the new department and how they don't have a differential. Of course I was not about to have that so I pointed out that I was never notified. I brought this up to management and was basically brushed off.

What really pisses me off is those transfered in February did not have their pay decreased but those of us transfered in March did.

I'm not sure what I can do about this but I'm definately feeling like I'm being fucked over. I've worked for this company for 4.5 years and have had my pay decreased twice. I should obviously quit but I'm unable to at the moment.

Is there anything I can do?

The way it sounds that the company worked it, is that the people who transferred in February were actually transferred. Legally they probably worked it that you weren't. You were stuck there until they shut down the department.
They didn't decrease your salary, the way they worked it was probably that they terminated you and offered you a new job.
Subtle distinction, but one that means you don't have recourse other than finding a new job.
Maybe you were a bottom performer, maybe one of your bosses disliked you, whatever it is, you were fucked, but afaik legally.

I don't know the arizona law, but absent that it sounds like a sound business practice to get rid of trouble employees.

In my experience they start cutting highest paid employees first.

The highest paid employees who are highly paid because of seniority or other bullshit and aren't worth the money.

Your suffering from " Unaccountable Corporate Tyranny Syndrome" And unfortunately I would have to agree with the other comments. Your pretty much fucked.

You should learn to do what the rest of corporate america does. Kiss your boss's ass everyday. Be more cutthroat and make everyone around you look bad. Spread rumors, gossip, and rat them out. Thats when you will be showing you have potential for middle management and you'll get promoted instead of starved out.

Sadly you would actually be lucky if someone was trying to organize your job.

unionize. get the rest of your cow-orkers pissed and hold a vote.

then leave because union jobs are shitty places to work for anyone worth a damn.

And they'll eventually cause whatever industry is being unionized to go out of business.
Lol at these comments. You guys been taking corporate propaganda classes again? Hey, at least you show promise in todays dying America. Grats.
