Unity doesn't call itself a hardcore guild. We're a raiding guild.

We raid from 8 til 12, 5 days a week, that's it. The guild that gets his raidforce together the fastest possible is the guild that will dominate the contested.
I think only fable is the guild where members either don't work, study, or have a job with a lot of flexible houres where that kind of schedule is possible .

I don't think validus, nastrand, the vision or unity keep a list of everybody's phonenr.
So tbh, we have one hardcore guild and 4 semi-hardcore or raiding guilds on splitpaw.

So are you guys saying you won't monitor the timers on these mobs in the hope that they coincide with your standard raid times? You don't need phone numbers if you are sitting there waiting for the pop

So are you saying that because a contested mob spawns during a regular raid time it makes a guild hardcore if they go after it? This is all just semantics but I would refer to a guild with no limit on when it raids, such that contested can be downed, 'hardcore'. Guilds that are relatively inflexible in their raid schedule I would refer to as 'semi-hardcore' or even just 'a raid guild'.

I agree with what Mirdo says.

Hardcore raiding imo stands for priorities. No matter what, you try to get control of a contested mob even if that means your rl has to step aside for that. A guild that is willing to get a raidforce together outside the main raidinghoures is an example of that. You literaly have to put your work or rl aside for getting that contested down asap. There comes more to hardcore raiding ofcourse but that is the main difference between a true hardcore guild and a semi-hardcore (or raiding) guild.

I don't think in other guilds besides fable the mainstraim of that guild is willing to do that or has the possibility of doing that. In guilds like validus and unity the focus is raiding above anything else and if a contested pops during our raidingtimes yes we might go for it but we're not willing to sacrifice our rl or job for getting control of the contested mob before any other guild.

Imo you have four types of guilds that tackle or try to tackle raidcontent:

hardcore guild (fable)
semi-hardcore guild (validus, unity, nastrand, the vision)
family raiding guild (Equinox, United Kingdoms, Holy Grail, Dark Haven, Evolution, Synergy, ...)
casual raiding guild (vanguard, spirit of dawnsong, ...)

Sorry if i didn't add your guild on this list or you don't like where your guild is listed (i might be wrong ) but i can't add them all, just putting them there for an example

I will only answer for the Validus part, don't know about the others. I have no idea where you find that info because nowhere do we proclaim to be a hardcore guild. Not in our recruitment nor on our website.

Hardcore is a term used by many people with many other definitons. Some think itīs about getting the contested, others think itīs a 5/7 day raid schedule with strict attendance policies. Itīs one good reason not to use that term.

Regarding contesteds, experience tells us that most of them die between 3 and 5 PM cet. You only have to look at the guild with the most students, unemployeds and people without a busy social life to know who'll be killing them. Ofcourse we will track the pop-kill times in Validus, and when they pop in favourable times we will be leaving whatever instance we're in and pulling them if we can. But it's not our most important goal.

That isn't true. In EOF I attended about 3/4th of the contested kills Fable did (not counting the couple of months I was gone from Fable and the game in the beginning of 2007) and I am rarily home before 5 PM CET. I remember killing C.Mayong after 7 - 8 PM CET alot of the time, and same with some of the Avatars. The only contested that died really early was PHH, Princes and Matron, because they were easy as hell. MO often popped later as well.

Well maybe it's my memory that is getting worse, but besides those easy mobs most of the avatars also died before I ate my dinner... which is 5:30 cet sharp.

Either way, it doesn't matter a whole lot. New tier, new chances. We will see what will happen. Me, I am more interested to see how some upcoming MMO's will influence the (raid)guilds on Splitpaw. All around the board people are already very bored with what's supposed to be the tough raidzone in RoK. With it's tediously boring fights and loot that's going straight to the transmuter... Let's hope the next GU makes EQ2 more interesting again else I can see more people fleeing to new challenges in other MMO´s.

I agree with Faraw i remember most contesteds ( avatars, CM etc) usually popping mid to late evening. Usually PHH would pop early on tho
