    Default BOff Skills

So what skills have people found to be useful from their BOff's? Really I'm most interested in space as I've never really noticed anything good from the ground skills (in fact I only occasionally notice the odd shield regen/photon grenade and it doesn't make much of a difference imo)

I finally hit T2 tonight and got my science ship (speedy I know!) and my current skills are:

    Tactical: High Yield Torpedos
    Engineering: Emergency Power to Shields
Science (ensign): Jam Sensors (I think, the one that makes them unable to attack me)
    Science (ensign): Science Team
    Science (Lt): Tachyon Beam II

Love HYT (and its far better than torpedo spread) great skill to have and even better to time taking down the shields just before your torps hit and double crit for 3.5k.

EPtS is a good save skill but my science skills seem a bit meh. Don't know if I'm using them wrongly but Tachyon beam seems to do nothing to a ships shields. Science team and Jam Sensors I've not really played with as I've not had to tank anything since getting my new ship so undecided on them.

What have you found that works well/poorly? What about ground skills?

Tactical - Beam Fire at Will I, Beam Overload II, Attack Pattern Beta II
Engineer - Emergency Power to Shields I, Reverse Shield Polarity I (insanely uber)
Engineer -Engineering Team I, Reverse Shield Polarity (very uber)
Science - Mask Energy Signature I (meh), Tachyon Beam II (insanely uber)

I've got to be doing something wrong here because that's what I had heard previously which is why I picked it up at T1 and then upgraded at T2, but when I use it, it always seems ineffective.

What Auxiliary power setting do you have?

Look at your abilities in the abilities window to see what affects what.

    For that, it is:

    Starship Deflectors
    Starship Deflector Dish
    Starship Operations Training

High Yield Torpedo III is lush, launching a 4 torp volley at anything when its shields are down ends the fight pretty fast. I tried it for a while on my heavy escort but had to switch it out for Cannon Rapid Fire II in the end. I'm hoping to pick it up again later though when I have more high level tactical stations.

Other than that, in no particular order, atm the following are quite useful...

    Tactical Team I
    Engineering Team I
    Emergency Power to Shields II
    Jam Sensors I
    Tractor Beam II
    Attack Pattern Alpha II
    Cannon Scatter Volley I
    Cannon Rapid Fire II
    Fire On My Mark I

I tried Beam Fire at Will I but it was a bit "meh..", you cant control what targets it selects and it doesn't hit very hard either.

I've been thinking about using Reverse Shield Polarity, does it only work from beam weapons, or does it also regen from cannon fire?

What's the difference between rapid fire 1 and 2? I don't see any in the description. It's hands down my favorite skill lol

RSP works against any energy weapon type.

Here's what I've found. I'm Rear Admiral 4, tactical officer and mainly fly Escorts though I'll occasionally hop into a cruiser or science ship to mix things up.

The best survival skills (in no particular order):
Jam Sensors (this one should be a given)
Scramble Sensors (use this on one of those big groups of shuttles/frigates in a Deep Space Encounter and hillarity ensues)
    Emergency Power to Shields
    Science Team
    Reverse Shield Polarity (ridiculously powerful)
    Emergency Power to Structural
    Engineering Team

Best offensive skills (in no particular order):
Attack Pattern Beta (this one is awesome)
Attack Pattern Omega (must have when fighting Romulan Warbirds and Terran Battleships)
Cannon Rapid Fire (if you're in an Escort or use Turrets)
    High Yield Torpedo
Torpedo Spread (not as useful as HYT but nice for wearing down shields on big targets or taking down minefields or big groups of fighters)
Beam Overload (if you use beam weapons)
Tactical Team (the effects aren't immediately obvious, but it does make a difference)

    If your science:

Viral Matrix - The PvE skill there is. Shuts the target down for 30 seconds if you have points in it .

Jam Scencors: Single target only but great if your waiting Eng team etc.

Hazard Emitter - Cleanses the ship of Plasma dots and has HoT to boot.

Gravity Well - Usefull CC and can take 10% of hull if their shields are down. Also reveals cloaked ships in PvP if their hit by it.

Scramble Scensors - Great in Deep Spac encounters and if you have PvP group who isn't on the ball it can do some damage.

Tractor Beam - Useful snare vs Escorts and hit them with a high yield 3 or 4 .
Seriously, all those swaying tree branches moving in random directions, multiplied by however many trees are in my view and draw distance.

Mythic, please give me a way to turn off swaying branches, so my client can concentrate on more important things, such as providing me quicker response times and feedback during combat. - "Oldguy" WAR whine thread.
