Re: Looking for advice on developing effective rhythm
I've wondered about this a bit myself, as far as techniques or such that folks find helpful in this regard. As I understand, its dependant on weapons delay to some degree and getting off 1-2 combat arts in between, but I've never found any effective strategies to get this done or to at least practice it. Spamming CAs seems to be the fastest route to take down a solo mob, but on longer duration group encounters or raids for sure, that doesn't cut it. My specific questions on this are what arts when, and how would you chain some of them? The cast times on the arts are easy enough to figure out with or without sailwind, but really looking for a nice "flow" to how I should approach an encounter (in general terms, as I know many encounters vary).
I look forward to testing and parsing any advice out on the training wall!

with soo much double attack flying around these day and ofcourse crit, getting the most autoattack swings is huge.

Re: Looking for advice on developing effective rhythm
i never time, why ? here u go:
with sailwind u have 0,4s casting and 0,4s time till next ca goes in
this 0,4s between a ca goes in is enouph time to get auto attack in, so maximum u miss while smashing buttons is 0.000period - 0,4s delay on an auto attack. can u think about how long 0,4s is ? maybe your eyes need longer to close and open again. so ok the longest ca or spell we have is 2s (-25%) im not ingame atm sry; so here u should wait a second to get auto attack in, then cast aoe or shortbuff and directly after u did that u hit auto attack and should have qued another ca.
thats my point of timing.
if u want to time: go to the act dl section and download an auto pling when auto attack happend, after 2 month u will sleep with a pling in your brain, go to work with a pling in your brain :D etc. etc. etc.
so basically u should know when u hit a long casting spell / ca or what else u are doing with your playstyle. for examble with getting from haste to 3s delay on both weapons u could spam 3 ca´s, wait a milisecond then hit long time aoe or so and then smash cas like hell ... i hope u could understand me im german so its a bit difficult to discribe it, but well my dps is quite ok, at least i think im doing good :P
hope i could help u a bit out

Re: Looking for advice on developing effective rhythm
This can be a very situational and personal preference subject.
Why is say this is, weather or not wis line sucks.... for some reason I still see swashy's running around with it. So that can be a factor. Also haste amount will play a huge part in how many CA's you can get off before an auto attack... For that I suggest looking at the "Haste and your Swash" thread...
But for most of the swash population that raids.... 4.0 weapons. minimum 30 haste is my personal preference as it rids the 30% added delay for dual wielding. In which case brings your weapons to 4.0 even again.... meaning 5 CA's with sailwind, 4 without it before an auto attack. and if you have that magic 30 haste mod.... You can button mash all you want and auto attack will do it's own thing... however in raids this is almost impossible to do without having to cancel all other raid wide haste buffs, and also just stupid.
German guy had a lot of it right. Timing isn't really that hard and most times i usually don't see a difference unless in crap group setup. But a good rule to follow is 2 CA's wait and see what happens. then 2 more CA's... with temp buffs you can just even click ca's and auto attack can do it's thing for the most part....
Hope this helps.

Re: Looking for advice on developing effective rhythm
The only things I ever timed were our 2 sec cast AOE ( 1.8 w/ sailwind iirc ) and our short buffs ( If I somehow forgot to cast them before pull or they refreshed mid fight)
After that unless you have uncanny reflexes and/or ACT it's really pointless to time autos between Ca's.
Another rule of thumb I follow is if it's an aoe encounter of 3 or more mobs, do not cast CA's during insight. Because CA's do not proc hurricane, but that's about it as far as timing goes. /shrug.
In short, Mizou is pretty much spot on, just time the long casting stuff.
