Default Insight now sucks - we have two borked CAs now

Back in the day, inspiration was considered a token swashbuckler ability. It had a long cast and long recast, but once it went off, it meant death for whoever you were facing. Now, it is something that I often loose damge, or barely increase damage with when I cast it.

With our mythical being 4.0 sec delay that makes the delay 5.2 seconds when dual wielded. Now, figure in haste and we can get a 2.5 seconds per swing. This means that on an inspiration cast (2 sec for cast + recovery with sailwind) I get 5 hits with inspiration. Now, on my brief run in SoH yesterday, Darring Attack Averaged 765 per hit. With 5 hits per cast that is an extra 3825 per cast. In that same timespan I could cast two combat arts to do more damage. Not only that, but even with my less than uber Betrayal's song for offhand, my average pierce is still 2553 on that same raid without any group DPS buffs. And I get my double attack to say 40%. One round of melee does an AVERAGE of 7148.

To add insult to injury, our new swash chest piece adds a focus of 80 to insight, increasing its damage by a whopping 16.8% to insight damage. The bruiser chest focus DOUBLES the damage of their flurry by the way.

So, again we see the problems with not having a dev who plays a swash. Inspiration was designed when most weapons were 1.6 delay.

Inspiration needs to scale with weapon delay. It should AVERAGE 1.2k with a 3 second delay weapon. It also needs to do melee damage instead of piercing. Now it crits like a spell and not like melee. Basically, inspiration used to DOUBLE our damage output with melee for those 12 seconds. It needs to do that again to be inline. All of our CAs scaled... inspiration actually went down in quality by quite a bit.

Do you not hit CAs while Insight is up? Because if you don't, that's why you think it sucks. Here's a tip, mash buttons the entire time while Insight is up. DO MORE DPS! OMGZ!

Sorry, didn't calculate in CAs procing it.

Basically, I know that Insight used to be a much larger portion of my overall damage. It was more damage than our other CAs. Most raids it was 10% of our damage. It is now about 2-3. Just did a 3 minute fight where I was at about 140 haste most of the fight AND hit Insight twice. It was 2% of my damage. I mashed CAs.

It was originally balanced for assuming most swashies had 1.6 delay weapons and so would Attack, CA, Attack, CA... basically 2 hits every second. Now it goes Attack, CA, CA, Attack. Also, while most of our CAs went up by over 10% from M1 to adept III. Insight went up slightly less.

I am not saying it is completely worthless... but it is only really worhtwhile now if I precast it with high haste. It is still free damage.. but it is no where near what it used to be.

Edit: tonight I will spam insight within 10 seconds of being up. We have mythical dirges so my haste should be pretty uber at almost all times. I will again look at what it does raid wide. We are running PR so that is a good zone to test since I don't miss much at all.

The above two retards aside, I will also point this out:

In tier 5, inspired daring at adept III did about 360 damage for me, max.

In tier 7, it was 594 max.

In tier 8 it is.... 612 max...uh

(note this is in tank gear and I kinda have low str anyway)

yeah...That's fucking retarded. 18 damage increase? For 10 fucking levels? That's utter bullshit.

As it stands now Insight is extremely useless compared to its older versions. If you cast it mid-fight, dps goes down, because you could have been using combat arts or auto attacks that do a fuckload more damage. Only way to turn it positive is to precast it, or if you just happen to time it perfectly with a significant casting speed boost or dispatch. Just casting it anytime = fucked.

True, I never played my swashy back then. So I just figured it was one of those 'precast before the pull', and always had been.

Now I can understand how you consider it worthless.

I think a reasonable tweak to it would be to turn it into a half-second cast like On Guard to keep it viable mid-fight without turning it back into the monster ability it used to be for the sake of balance.

Perhaps, but even then, it was once pretty defining. It could be more useful without being a monster.

The max damage, however, needs to be AT LEAST 700, with the str calculated into the above values I posted. THere's just no fucking excuse at all for adept III insight to do 18 more damage than master 1 inspiration.

Needs to do at least 100 more.
