Default Riposte?

So can someone tell me about "Riposte".

What triggers it?
When does it happen?
How much and what type of damage?
Relationship to On-Guard or other CA's?
...any other information.

Thanks

When a mob attacks you from the front (face to face), there is a chance to riposte.
It doesn't "deflect" nor "block" like a parry would, but it *returns* the attack back to the attacker.
Basically it makes an additional return-attack.
It should be melee based (dependant on your equiped weapons).
Actually, any frontal hits on your person 'should' have a chance to riposte (think melee AoE).

Hope that helps, or gets u started.
FYI, most this info/knowledge is what I knew of EQ1's riposte, but in general it should be the same in EQ2.

So you don't get damage from a riposted attack (if you are the riposter)?
The damage are based on your own auto attack stats ?

So, the riposte is a free auto attack that trigger on a face-to-face attack of a mob and canceling the damage of that attack ?

It does NOT "block" or "avoid" damage, you still take damage from the hit.

Riposte is additional DPS for the tank really. Quite useless for a Swash, unless your a tanking swash..and even then..its not where your "DPS" is coming from, so its still not all that important.

from what I understand you can only Riposte a Parried attack.

I could be wrong, and I probably am, but I think that you can only riposte the parried attack so you would not take any damage from an attack you riposted. which would explain why all the riposte adorns increase your parry, so again if your parry sucks you wouldn't get much dps from riposte attacks.

now, please correct me if I am wrong

In fencing, the riposte (French for retort) is an offensive action with the intent of hitting one's opponent, made by the fencer who has just parried an attack.

Ahh OK, that makes better sense then.
So the "parry" is what would *block* the attack, and then you get a % chance to make a "riposte" directly after.

Well thanks for all the information everyone! So far it sounds like Riposte is not much of anything for a Swash.

One last question set and probably the point of this whole investigation into riposte:

What use is it to a Swash?
Why do we have AA choices which buff riposte?

well, i've added the TSO swashy riposte AA to my tank spec in my AA mirror so i could re-coupe some dps i lost from Pirate Stab. I use the recoiling ring and wrist set bonus from SoH to boost the riposte damage too. /shrug my thinking was every last bit counts?
