Aye, as Venser says, you just need to know what to look for. If you turn off other players' damage you'll see only your own numbers. Autoattacks usually tend to be a wider cluster of orange numbers hitting at once (primary and secondary weapon damage, poisons and other procs) and easily identified. There are often in-game sounds which tell you that an autoattack has landed.
All you need to do is quickly check how much haste you have at the beginning of a fight to estimate how many CA's you do between autoattacks to begin with (usually I find if it's around 80 or below, fit 3 CA's... 80 - 110 is an awkward area, but over 110 is good to fit 2 CA's), and when bravado kicks in you're pretty much on your way with AA > 2 CA's > AA > 2 CA's (unless of course you use swathe at some point etc.)
I always start off with Kidney Stab, Flurry of Blades... the def skill debuff, and Thieving Essence (all of these after temp buffs if they're up at the start of a fight) to lower the mob's physical mitigation and defence as much as possible, and also give yourself +123 CA damage.
Poisons I use are caustic, gracelessness, and enfeebling.
Different things work for different people though. Some people prefer the autoattack bar, but I find it to be too much of a distraction and end up worse off for it.
Anyways, that's my 2 cents on the basics.
