Human is always a good choice. STR and INT are the racial stat bonuses, Diplomacy helps a lot in soloing, shiny collecting, etc., and the reduced gathering time by .5 seconds makes raising your gathering skills a bit less painful. The only thing I wish I had is the 15% increased stealth run speed (would have made solo leveling a bit faster), but in the end I'm glad I'm a human.
As has been stated before, however, none of the racials are game breakers. Pick a race you think looks cool and you'll be happy with, and unless you're a froglok save yourself the $25. : P
