Default Race

Since many sites haven't updated the new racial trait changes, I have having issues finding a good list. Since as of today SOE will allow you to change your race are there any races that really compliment a swashy? I am currently a half-elf.

*shrug* Does it really matter?

A lot of the new "special" racial abilities are scout abilities anyways - tracking, disarm, safe fall, pickpocket, etc. Only a few things are different like the call of the tinker ability.

Other than that, just about any race is going to have abilities that benefit a scout. I picked Halfling cause I like being a stubby little pirate. Turns out I get bonus poison trigger count, and stealth invis speed and stuff like that. A lot of the "typical" scout races will also things like this - rats have similar, as do dark elves, wood elves. The other classes are still going to have options for melee crit, double attack, etc.

I'm not quite sure why so many people are upset about the whole racial change thing on the forums. I've yet to see anything where I was like "omg i r uber now!" or "omg i r suck now", but maybe that's just me.

The eq2.wikia race page at Character Race - EQ2i, the EverQuest 2 Wiki - Quests, guides, mobs, npcs, and more has links to up-to-date information for each race.

As always, race isn't a game-breaker. If you want to min-max:
- start with the races with compatible combat bonuses (ie., melee oriented, ranged DA for rangers, no DA for monks since they can max it out, etc.).
- Useful noncombat bonuses are a huge plus
- There are several fun innate abilities. Look for innate abilities not normally available to scouts. Human diplomacy (reduce aggro range to <1) is nice when soloing. Several races get a 'call to group member' spell. Ogres get a 10-second stun immunity and trolls get a 10-second fear immunity.

Well I guess the big ability that Ratongas and Halflings get is the 25% poison trigger increase. How much does this really affect DPS and debuffs and is it worth considering the race change?

Nothing at all. It increases the number of procs one poison gives.
So instead of your 100 procs it gives you 125 for each poison.

You might earn a few gold here and there, nothing more nothing less.

I wonder, is this worth $25?

IMO there aren't any racial abilities worth $25. Unless you're just extremely unhappy with your race for whatever reason (looks, etc).

That's why I don't get all this fuss about racial changes. None of them are game changing. One or two might give a slight advantage in PvP, but even so I'd say it's slight. And for the most part, you'll probably get a boost from your race - an extra couple of crit, DA, etc.

Just like the majority of SC purchases, this really only affects appearance. The new racial traditions are bland at best, is it worth 25$ to get new stats? No. Is it worth 25$ to NOT see the retarded froglok running animation anymore? Hell yes.
