Default Old PC has better perf with EQ2 than new PC?

So this weekend I decided to boot up my old p4 3.2Ghz w/2GB of RAM and an nVidia 6600GT card and install EQ2 on it b/c I wanted to two box. I did this and was amazed, my performance is night and day over my new 2.6Ghz Core Duo w/2GB of RAM and an nVidia 8800. WTF over?!? Is it Vista? The new PC has Vista, the old PC has XP.

Whatever happened to EQ2's engine supposedly being developed for hardware that hadn't released yet and it was so supposed to be so awesome when all that new hardware came out?

By better peformance I mean 30-40fps MORE on the old PC.

If the consensus is that Vista is causing this, I will totally blow it away and install XP tonight.

vista + eq2 blows. I used to three box on the same PC under XP, vista couldnt even do two

EQ2 tops out at about a geforce 7900, any video card more powerful than that doesnt get put to use

Windows XP has been out forever. Microsoft has had so much time to fine tune the OS. Vista is still new and it may or may not ever be able to compete with what XP has done in performance.

Also, EQ2 is relying on you having 4 year old technology to run there never gonna be updated code.

eq2 was never designed to run on a duelcore system...there is a lengthy thread at the soe forums on things you have to do to get eq2 to run correctly on a duelcore system

also remeber....the eq2 graphics engine was built back when an athlon 2500 and nvidia ti. 300 where the top dogs of gaming rigs lol.

rt now im running eq2 on a 4 yearold system that uses an overclocked 2500...only thing i have upgraded was my graphics card to a 7600 gs 512....about the only thing that happened is i can now run with texture at high instead of med and keep my fps about the same.

Many of us with 8800 cores have issues mate.. I gave up bitching to SoE about it awhile back. They seemed to solve the issue of crashing at high settings after some time right before RoK release but since then it's back. The engine just doesn't use enough of the 8800 to show `leaps and bounds` increases IMO.

I still have the crash and depends on location but basically it states it could not load MEM in the vid card and pukes. High settings thus pushing more textures loads up the buffer and it bombs. It's sad to have this dual core and 8800 but EQ2 doesn't use much of it
