Tom's Hardware reported today that the HD 3800 series, including the HD 3870 which outperformed a lot of the 8800 series cards, are getting huge price drops effective today on online retailers.

Of course, 2 of the 8800 won't work on crossfire mobo, so If you've been cursed with a Intel 975x motherboard (/raise), these are a great deal.

Yet the 8800 still can't do FP32 blending, which means no HDR and FSAA at the same time in Shader Model 3. GG Nvidia. I guess "blowing the 3870 out of the water" is pretty easy when you don't support the same featureset.

3870 X2 is fastest card currently, beats Ultra and GT/S cards, and it's very affordable after this.

That cost more? Of course. But we're talking price/performance. Similiar to how the 3870x2 is the best single card out there for the money; the 3870 for $179 is a much better value than a 8800GT for $229. I have an 8800GT and even I can see that.

Besides, ATi cards have always performed better in EQ2.
