Re: New PC competition for $100
Ok. After reading Gaige's post, and doing some thinking.....MIRs now count. And Gaige, are you suggesting I get Vista?

Re: New PC competition for $100
XP vs Vista is personal preference, I like Vista but for every person who likes Vista prob 5 people hate it.
I just don't think XP Pro is necessary unless you need one of its 3 features for work. For gaming XP Home is the same if not better.
Like I said I think the tradeoff (in my builds at least) of an X-Fi soundcard for XP Pro is kind of silly. But its your money.
I liked my first build the best. Good cpu, good videocard, a dedicated soundcard, legit XP Home, etc.
The second build with Pro isn't bad, and you get a bit better videocard, but it ends up being a wash since you're reverting to onboard sound.
I dunno, maybe someone else has some opinions.

Re: New PC competition for $100
Ok, so if I go with MIRs and Home, are there any other better options?
And I was always under the impression that Pro is just more resource friendly. I'd use Vista, but I don't know which version would be best.

Re: New PC competition for $100
Best version of Vista is Home Premium, either 32bit/64bit.
XP Home uses same resources as Pro, there is literally like 3 differences in features and none of them impact gaming at all. They're secruity/networking features.
Going with Vista would mean some sacrifices, as the OS costs more and it'd be in your best interest to go 4GB ram over 2GB.
However, lol, for the sake of being thorough, assuming you want Vista, do this:
Newegg.com - LG Black 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 10X DVD+R DL 20X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache ATAPI / E-IDE Super Multi DVD Burner - OEM
Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP Black SECC/ ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail
Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda ES.2 ST3250310NS 250GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
Newegg.com - XFX PVT88PYDF4 GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail
Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX ATX12V V2.2 550W Power Supply 90 - 264 V UL, CUL, CE, CB, FCC Class B, TUV, CCC, C-tick - Retail
Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail
Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX All Solid Capacitor Intel Motherboard - Retail
Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Retail
Newegg.com - Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Upgrade - Retail
$1,035.40 shipped - $50.00 MIRs = $955.40
So, basically same price. You're switching XP for Vista, dropping the soundcard (because Vista sound system makes an X-Fi less appealing than it is in XP) and upping to 4GB of ram.
Toss up imo. I know the Vista says "upgrade" but the important thing is that its retail so you can switch the license when you switch hardware. Its very easy to get a full, legit install of Vista from the upgrade version, if you don't know how and decide to go the Vista route PM me and I'll explain it.

Re: New PC competition for $100
I'm confused?
Does the computer have to be all parts totaling that amount?
Or
Does the computer have to be fully assembled by the time it arrives to your door?
Also, I can copy Gaige's build and save you $30 because he screwed up somewhere
Also his math is wrong =/
