Default Error when trying to load game

I can log onto my account and update through my patcher just fine, but as soon as my comp goes to launch the actual game, I get a fatal error message saying:

Everquest II has detected an unrecoverable error and must shutdown.

<verify> E:\live\eq2\framework\core\devices\src\DirectX9Ren derDevice.cpp (1019):
DirectX Error. (D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE)

I thought it may have been a bad download from the original disc, but I've found this isn't the case since I've tried reinstalling the game 3 times now from 2 different sets of discs and done a full file scan, as well as resetting all of my preferences/game options to default from the Launchpad. I also have patched my DirectX driver and the messages say I am up to date. Why is it I am still having issues loading my client?

Normally when this shit happens out of the blue your card is bad. You said you updated Direct X, did you update the latest drivers for the video card also?

I get that when my video drivers go bad. I'd check them first.

I'm not actually sure what video card I have so not sure how to find out which drivers I need. Running on whatever default comes in a ...*gasp*.. Emachine. Luckily I will be getting my new comp delivered tomorrow (thanks for the specs Petgroup) but that doesn't help me much for raiding tonight

Holy shit, eMachines is in the same ballpark as Norton & McAfee. Thank god you got rid of that piece of shit.

Put your model number, etc into the link below to find what that pos came with. I can't believe you could run Eq2 on that to begin with.

Followed your link, and I downloaded the Video driver.. still no go. Is there somewhere where I have to uninstall a corrupted driver from first?

And yeah Petgroup, putty mode 24/7 FTW. I'm going to be so spoiled with my new Dell.

What I meant from the link was the ability to tell what card you have then go to the manufacturers website and get the new driver. Whatever eMachine has will be years old. So if you have an ATI card, go to their website and get it.

I shoulda been more clear

I did install those drivers, but Petgroup's advice worked. Downloaded the updated ATI driver and now I can log on. Thanks a bunch!!!
